Chapter 1

It was on a Saturday afternoon, l had just finished my work and ready to go home.

"Goodbye Mr Smith," I said *waving at him.

"Goodbye Rita see you on Monday,"he replied.

I walked out of the building in a hurry because l knew Jay was waiting for me at the gate.

Jay was my best friend ever since we were little kids. We both went to the same school and played the same  game at school.*Table tennis.

Other students thought  there was something between us but trust me there was really nothing between us other than a mere friendship. If you could have asked us we would have answered  that we were siblings of which we weren't.

After the death of my both parents in a fatal car accident. My grandmother Jayne took me in to live with her. She has been living alone ever since my grandfather died...that was way long ago before I was born, so I never got know him.

Mr Smith on the other hand was my employer who owned a bakery. He claims to have been my grandfather's best friend ever since they were teenagers.

That's true because Jayne talked a lot about him and how close they were with grandpa.

To me, Mr Smith was like a grandpa that I never had.

And that's how easy it was for me to get a job at the bakery because of the bond he shared with our family.

According to him, his wife died three weeks after my grandfather died leaving him with three children; two boys and one girl.

One of his sons is now a man with his own family living in the united states, the other a young lady who is pursuing further studies in Canada and for the other one he did not talk about him.

Compared to my grandmother who apparently had five children; three sons and two daughters. One of her son being my father. She was older than Mr Smith approximately seven years.

I hurried to the gate but I did not find any trace of Jay being here.
