Summer before going to Grade Ten

Cal stood underneath the roof of the store as the rain was pouring outside. He didn't feel like running in the rain to catch his bus nor did he feel like wasting his money on buying an umbrella.

As he waited he spotted April across the street also hiding from the rain. Cal smirked as he saw April brush of the rain off her clothes. Cal didn't know what took over him, but he started to run across the road making sure no cars were coming. He pretended that he was looking for shelter from the rain and stood beside April.

"So what brings you here?" Cal says to her.

April jumps from his voice and this makes Cal smile. He likes that he has the affect on her.

"What do you think smart ass?" She retorts.

"Ahhhh. So you were stalking me." He says and nods his head.

April panics and starts explaining, and Cal doesn't hear a thing she's saying. Instead he's looking at her and studying her. He never had a real look at how April looked like. She wasn't the same little kid with two brown pigtails. Instead she had long wavy hair and had hazel brown eyes that matched with her hair. Her lips were a light pink and seemed kissable and-

What in the world are you thinking right now!

April's kissable lips.

No kidding smart ass.

"Hello?" April talks to him and he's brought back to reality. He clears his throat and looks around trying to not show her his burning cheeks.

Cal sees a biker riding towards them and when he passes by he ends up splashing them.

They both cover their face as that happens and April sighs. "My mom is going to kill me."

"My dad's going to kill me." Cal looks down at his dirty clothes.

"You wanna just get dirty?" Cal ask.

April's eyes widen and has her mouth open in surprise. It takes a moment for what Cal had just said before he smirks.

"Someone's thinking dirty thoughts. I meant jumping in puddles."

April blushes and tries to cover that by looking away and declines his offer.

"What are? Kindergartens?" She retorts.

"You shouldn't insult kindergartens like that." He says and smirks at her wondering if she remembered. If she did she didn't show it.

"Come on! It'll be fun!" Cal says again.

April shakes her head.

Cal rolls his eyes and mutters "goody two shoes." Then he grabs her hand and pulls her out to the rain and kicks a puddle of water at her.

She yelps and it doesn't take much for them to start out a full out war between each other.

This was just like the water fight last month.

When Cal sees April start to sneeze he runs off to a store and comes back with an umbrella in his hand. He holds it over her and she stares at him with a face that he had never seen her stare at him with.

Then she smiles.

God that smile.

Then she pushes him back with the umbrella under her hand and Cal is soon met with a waterfall of water falling on him.

Cal starts to cough over the water and is more wet than he intended.

"I hate you."

"I was starting to get worried that you had forgot." She chuckles at my reaction. Then her face softens and to make it even she says it back.

"I hate you more."
