Grade Seven
It's Halloween and Cal doesn't feel like wasting his day at school learning. He's feeling a little more bold today. Cal looks at April and grins mischievously.Grabbing a pair of symbols in the back of the room he slowly creeps up behind April who was setting up her saxophone.
"BANG!" Cal crashed the symbols near April's ear and she screamed and jumped off her chair in surprise.
She turned around and saw Cal laughing hysterically at her reaction.
"You-sh-should had seen yo-your face!"
Cal laughs in between his sentences.April's face turns red and she was feeling embarrassed and furious at the same time.
"I FRICKING HATE YOU!" She yells before stomping away.
"Maybe I went a little too far." Cal says.
At least there was a highlight of the day. The Grade Nines had created a haunted house and only junior highs could go during lunch.
April was standing in front of me with her groups of friends laughing and talking. When Cal tried to apologize she gave him a glare.
"Bro, forget about her. She's obviously on her period ." His friend Jase says.
Cal shakes his head with a slight smile on his face.
When it was their turn to enter they had managed to be in the same group as April and her friends to enter.
When they entered the gym they were met with a pitch black room.
Cal stepped beside April and whispered in her ear. "You sure you won't freak out? If you feel like you are going to you can always hold my hand."
Cal couldn't see her reaction, but he knew that it was between a glare or a scowl.
As they walked through the haunted house Cal noticed April jumping occasionally to the cheesy jump scares.
Her friends and his friends had already gotten to the end of the haunted house and it was only him and April left.
Cal didn't know why he didn't just follow his friends and leave April behind. He was unsure why he was walking slowly behind April and making sure she didn't make a fool of herself.
When they had finally reached the end of the haunted house there was one last jump scare that had popped out of nowhere in front of her. April jumped back and had accidentally slipped backwards.
With quick reflexes, Cal catches April from falling down and wraps his arms around her waist.
"I see you got yourself in a little trouble." Cal says cheekily.
April seems to be a loss of words for a moment and he could make out her face in he darkness that she was surprised.
"Jerk." Is all she says before pushing him away.
"What, no 'thank you'?" Cal says.
"I hate you." And April leaves making him smile in the dark.
