The scene Kureri was greeted with when the door to the interrogation opened was weird; Aruke had this cute smile on, while Konju trailed behind, looking like a kicked puppy. Kureri blinked.
"Good morning, Kureri!" Aruke greeted her. Konju just gave her a blank stare, which was hard to take seriously when he still had that kicked-puppy face on. Kureri resisted the urge to snicker like there was no tomorrow, and chose to reply with a short "Morning."
Aruke took a seat from across her, while Konju leaned on the wall behind Aruke, still pouting.
"... What do you want from me?" Kureri tilted her head slightly at the 14-year-old in front of her. "You are obviously not here for a conversation."
Konju nodded, moving forward threateningly, "We want to know more about Order's plan."
"I'm afraid I don't understand why you would ask me," Kureri rose an eyebrow elegantly. "I was not a higher-up in the group."
"But you must know SOMETHING," Aruke implored.
"I unfortunately don't. I served as a counsellor for everyone," Kureri gracefully placed her hands on her legs, with her ankles locked. Aruke noticed, She's nervous.
"May you tell us their pasts then?" Aruke coaxed her.
"I rather not, but seeing how eager you are to learn of it, I shall tell you," her knees unlocked, causing Aruke to mentally sigh in relief. He didn't want her to feel nervous.
"Kugewa and Hieru came from a strict world. Discipline was upheld as the basis in everyday life, and a single mistake could cost their lives," Kureri began. "Tomako rescued them before they were sentenced because they both broke an item."
Aruke already looked horrified. Over something that small?!
"Dekane came from a human AU, where creatures in canon are human. Here, he's a white fox who was Tomako's pet until he met his untimely demise during a mission. However, he is still as loyal to Tomako as ever."
"That makes sense," Konju grumbled. Aruke shoots him a look.
"Akeu was born is a war-ridden world, where everyone fought over the tiniest things. He had to learn to adapt on his own, but that made him social-awkward."
"What about you, Kureri?" Aruke decided to inquire, leaning closer to her.
"I..." Kureri faltered. "I was a citizen of the Evil World. So was Gerna, Reiko and Queru. That place is..... Insane, to say the least."
"Huh? Really?" Now KONJU was interested.
Kureri suddenly looked as if she was carrying a lot of baggage, which made Aruke's pity for the Dark Balancers increase tenfold, " We were... We were destroyed in our childhoods... Our parents were horrible... Honestly, Dekane himself also went through this.... He was shouted at for being so useless...."
Konju's eyes widened, "I-I see..."
Kureri began shaking a bit, "I-I never want to go back there.... I-I prefer this world over that one any day..."
Aruke rushed over and hugged her, "There there, it's fine.... You'll be okay... You can be better than that..."
"H-Huh?" Kureri looked confused as Aruke continued hugging her, "Moving on from the past is better than anything, Kureri. You're only hurting yourself the more you do this..."
Kureri's eyes widened. T-This warmth....
She remembered a time when someone- a Japanese with brown eyes and could see Youkai- had been nice to her. The warmth. The kindness. The pure LOVE. HOPE.
For the first time ever since that time, Kureri felt the light.
The two left Kureri satisfied with what they had done.
"While we may not have extracted information from Kureri, I think that today was a great day, don't you think, KonKon?"
"I agree wholeheartedly, Ruke. Though can we switch roles tomorrow?"
"In your dreams KonKon. You signed up for it."
"Hey!"
Aruke giggled in response to Konju's exasperated shout.
