'Yes, well I would like to know about my mate...........'

We sat at the edge of a Kílìfi eating súyà as we admired the view. Röma said nothing as she stared at the breath-taking display of the prideland. It was truly beautiful with its many vibrant colors of green tree tops, blue sky, white rushing waterfalls and clouds, the towering mountains, and much more. I was saddened by the fact that Röma couldn't see its beautiful colors but i knew she could feel the warm energy radiating off our beautiful Africa.

After I had asked her about my mate she had been deep in thought. I knew she was communicating with the spirits from the other side. I didn't push her mainly because I was nervous and confused at her sudden silence, usually she would've showed me the answer without hesitation.

'Jabari..... the answer to that question could cost you...' She mind-linked me softly. Her facial expression portrayed confusion, surprise and distress...?

'Why?... How so?' I replied back. How would knowing about my mate cost me? What could possibly be the problem?

'Well, you see your mate has a curse on her head... a curse that cannot be undone and when you find her ...... she will on verge of death. She is ....the daughter of your enemy? ' Röma answered in a question-like manner as she struggled to find the right words.

I was silent as Röma's words registered to me. My mate is my enemy, she is cursed and she will be dying when I find her. I was sure Röma could hear my heart shattering into millions of pieces.

'But how.. why.. who..?' A million questions raced through my mind 'How can I save her? What can I do? How can my mate, someone who is meant to complete me, be my enemy?' i asked desperately.

'Calm down Jabari, don't panic yet. That's not even the worst of it although.... the spirits won't tell me the rest. I do not understand it myself but the good news is that there is a solution but...... it may cost you and I.' Röma said through our mind-link with tears falling down her eyes.

I gently wiped her tears and held her hand. I was unsure of what made her cry but I could feel sadness coursing through me. Röma and I had a connection that made me feel her strongest emotions. It was extremely odd and I had no idea how it had formed perhaps it was because she was mute or maybe it was because we grew up together.

'Why should it cost you? What is the price that I must pay?' I asked her hesitantly. I wasn't sure if I wanted to know but I knew I needed to know.

'The curse on her head came from your ancestors and is part of the reason why I'm alive. It is written in the stars, your mate's destiny and mine, along with yours, are intertwined.' Röma said.

I was now extremely confused. How could they have intertwined destinies and how would that cost Röma. But I knew Röma could only tell me so much since her knowledge was also limited.

'How would it cost me?' I asked.

'She is the daughter of the Pride's enemy born of royalty. Her spirit is a savage and relentless storm when angered and she is unfit to be Luna.' Röma replied as if reading out of a book.

I was taken aback at her answers because it seemed a great burden came with my mate. I felt my lion whimper at her words, I suddenly regretted asking her about my mate. I would not reject my mate -that option has never even crossed my mind- but if she was not fit to be Luna then how could she survive. The pride needs a strong mother, someone who they could turn to when times get rough.
