It had been about 4 months since I was injured on the run.
I healed slowly. I couldn't walk for about 2 weeks so I was basically bedridden. That sucked, especially since I was pregnant. I constantly had to pee and I puked more than I was proud of. However, through all of this, Siddiq was surprisingly by my side to help me. I know it was just because it was basically his job, but I appreciated his help so much. He was there to change my bandages and to constantly check up on me daily.
Over the last 4 months, I just got bigger and bigger. My stomach was extended now, being extremely noticeable. I eventually had to tell everyone about it after I told Rick. Some people were pleased, some mutual, and a couple people didn't like it. No one knew it was Negan's but I think they figured it out. Maggie was on the list of people that didn't care much for it. She was pregnant too, although she was farther along. When Rick told her about me, it wasn't pretty.
Summer was in full swing now. Eugene thought it was around the beginning of August. It was unbearably hot everyday and being pregnant didn't help.
A sigh left my mouth as I sat back into the chair, the legs rocking against the porch. The hot summer breeze blew through my hair that had been almost permanently pulled up to try and cool myself down. My hands instinctively clasped together on my stomach as I rocked back and forth gently. The sounds of Alexandria were in my ears as I shut my eyes. Kids laughing. People talking. Hammers hitting nails. Birds singing. Everything was okay.
We were still rebuilding the town. We even helped the Sanctuary get back on its feet after Negan. Everyone was getting along. It was nice. People from each community brought the Sanctuary supplies and food every week until they could grow their own. Maggie didn't like it, but the people living there were mostly innocent. They were just under Negan's control.
I hadn't seen Negan since the time in the infirmary. Whatever happened between us that day was long forgotten. The words that he spoke to me, only me, were still burned into my brain. However, I tried to move on. I found myself not even thinking of him anymore. It was hard. Every time I looked at myself in the mirror, my stomach was a reminder of him. So I hardly looked in the mirror anymore. I did miss him from time to time. My brain would give me dreams of him more than I cared for but in those dreams, I was happy beyond belief.
"How can you stand it out here?" Rick's voice was suddenly next to me, causing me to jump out of my skin. My eyes flew open and I looked to him. He was standing a couple feet from the chair I was in, his arms crossed and his eyes looking out to the town before him. I held my hand over my heart and let out a breath.
"I'm going to have a heart attack if you keep doing that." I sighed and he chuckled, his blue eyes turning to me. My hands gripped the arm rests and I sat up in the chair.
"And to answer your question, it's not bad with the breeze." I responded. It was one of those days when the breeze was just enough to keep you cool even with the sun beating down from above.
He looked at me with a smile before walking towards me and taking a seat in the porch chair next to me. A huff tumbled from his lips and I smirked. Old man.
It was quiet between us. His chair creaked as he rocked back and forth, his arms sat on the arm rests. I relaxed back into the chair, my eyes shutting again. I could almost fall asleep. The heat was making both him and I lazy right now as we lounged on the porch. It was peaceful. I liked it.
"I was talking to Siddiq," Rick started, making me peep one eye open towards him. "He is gearing up for you, y'know." He said and I opened both my eyes, my eyebrows furrowing.
"What do you mean?" I asked. My mind wandered at his question.
"He's been reading up on delivering the baby. He's the only person we have thats even remotely qualified for it." He looked out to the town again, his blue eyes searching over the people and buildings. I wanted to know what was on his mind. I was finding it harder to read people as time went on.
