The first thing Paul said when he walked in my house was, "Where is little miss Pauline?"

"Paul, for the last time, that is not her name," I answered, lifting Scottie out of her playpen.

"It should be." He happily took her from my arms. "How's my favorite girl?"

She mumbled unintelligibly.

"I'm telling you, her first word is going to be 'Paul', and that's exactly why she should be named after me."

I rolled my eyes. "Maybe I'll name the next one after you." When I saw his excited fist pump, I immediately regretted my words. "Maybe."

He laughed, sitting down in the armchair. He pulled Scottie into his lap and started bouncing her on his knee to entertain her. It made my heart full to watch them interact.

I considered Paul like another brother, so it meant a lot that he got along so well with my daughter. He was probably my biggest supporter.

Paul looked around at the house I just moved into. Boxes still sat scattered around; it was hard to unpack with a 10 month old baby to take care of. Most of what was unpacked was for her, other than some of my clothes.

"This is nice place you've got, Kat. How long you think you'll be here?"

Since Shawn and I split, I moved back in with my parents. They were helpful with taking care of Scottie, but I felt that we needed our own space. When Dad offered to let me stay in the summer home, I took it.

I opened one of the boxes sitting on the couch and started pulling out dishes. I shrugged. "Until Dad stops paying for it?" I joked. "No, I mean... until I can get on my feet? I hate relying on my parents, but there's not a whole lot of options right now. I couldn't live under the same roof as my mom for another month."

"That bad?"

"Worse than you're thinking."

"Yikes," he winced. "Good ol' Linda."

"I love my mother, but she's so... overbearing. I had to keep reminding her which of us is actually Scottie's mom. We just need to be on our own for a while, huh princess?" I directed the last part to Scottie, making funny faces at her to make her giggle.

"Well you never know; you may not be alone forever. You could meet someone."

"I doubt it. The only guy I've ever been with, all I did was bump into him. There's no way I could get into the dating scene."

"Well, there you go. Keep bumping into people and your clumsiness will find you a man."

"Oh, shut up." I picked up the stack of plates I unpacked. "I'm taking these to the kitchen."

"Don't drop them!"

"Keep it up and I won't be naming any kids after you!" I shouted from the other room.

Steph and Paul would be staying with Leslie and I for the weekend, then the three of us had to get back on the road again.

I had barely even opened the door before Scottie figured out who had arrived.

"Uncle Paul, Uncle Paul! Up!" She shouted, running to him.

"There she is!" He lifted her and threw her up in the air, making her giggle. He threw her one more time before resting her on his hip. "How's my favorite girl doing?"
