"what? that's not fair!" jihoon protests, and miran sticks her tongue out as a response. he's standing in the kitchen, dressed for school, while miran's eating her breakfast, still in her sleepwear. "you aren't even sick!"
"sucks to suck," she shrugs. "i need this, jihoon."
"you're avoiding him, aren't you?"
miran winces. jihoon didn't even say junkyu's name, yet here she is, flinching because he's mentioned. "whatever."
"here we go again," he sighs. "i keep telling you this: you deserve someone better. open your eyes a little, miran. are you really gonna spend another year pining on a guy who won't even look your way unless he needs something? we've been friends with junkyu for so long and i love him, but lately he's been rejecting you. before you view him as the boy you like, view him as your best friend first. back when you dated hyunjoon, if junkyu needed you, you'd go to him even if you were with hyunjoon. now, he's practically abandoned you for a girl he isn't even dating. is that something a best friend would do?"
she stays silent. miran can't argue.
"see you later, i guess," jihoon starts to head out, swinging his school bag over his shoulder. "hope you feel better."
the front door closes, and she hears the car start. she looks out the window as jihoon drives away. she sighs, running a hand through her hair. she turns her phone on, opening the message app.
