Chapter twenty three

Ash drove the car on the last drop's of gas before it stopped for good, he sighed and turned the car off, Monte sighed and looked up the road ''Can't be that far now, been driving for a really long time.'' he stated looking at the empty road seeing a couple abandoned car's on the side of the road with one in the middle of the road ''We can walk.'' Jean stated while Carson and John got out, Monte and Ash exited it as well. Shutting the door's John went to the back getting their gear out and gave everyone their weapons putting the bag on his shoulder and shut the back holding his shotgun.

They walked around and headed down the road ''Think theirs a garden?'' Jean asked as they walked, John looked at him a bit confused ''Why?'' Jean shrugged ''Always wanted to learn how to make my own food.'' John looked forward as they walked ''They either have that or canned food,'' Jean looked to Monte ''I know our base had canned food, the military's old rations.'' he explained remembering his old base when it wasn't this bad ''Disgusting stuff.'' Monte added scrunching his nose up still tasting the food, they giggled.

John sighed thinking it was too quiet ''I'm glad my sister didn't need to live in a world like this, don't think she would've made it as far as us,'' Monte looked at him ''And my mom.'' he said as they walked around some of the cars ''My sibling's are probably dead, along with my parents.'' Jean joined in ''My parent's died a long time ago.'' Carson added looked at the ground ''Why are we sharing sappy stories?'' Ashton asked looking at them, John shrugged ''It was to quiet, you wanna find a better way to pass the long walk?'' John asked looking at him, Ash nodded and thought for a bit ''Wanna know what's great about Switzerland?'' Ash asked, John smiled hearing it before ''What?'' Monte asked, Ash shrugged ''I don't know, but their flag is a big plus.'' Jean and Carson smiled shaking their head's while Monte smiled.

''What do you call a dog with no legs?'' John asked, Jean shook his head ''I know where this is going but I'll bite, what?'' he asked looking at him while they walked ''It doesn't matter what you call him, he isn't coming.'' they giggled ''What do you call an alligator in a vest?'' Carson asked thinking of the first joke that came to mind, they smiled knowing it ''An investigator.'' John said looking over to him ''Yeah I guessed at least someone has herd that one before.'' John nodded ''Try again.'' he said as they walked, Ash soon stopped hearing slight talking mixed in with static ''Hey un guys.'' they all stopped looking back while Ash stepped back and looked into a car seeing it was still on, he looked inside seeing it was empty and opened the door fixing the signal while the other's walked over.

*... People.... Announ... for thos... coming to the sa... Arizona, you must go around the main road for it is to crowded with reanimated people.* he found the right signal half way through and they herd the rest properly, Monte looked down the road ''I don't see any of the dead?'' he said and looked at them ''They might be talking about the other side.'' John said and looked back ''How do they know?'' Carson asked ''They could have patrol's going along the road.'' Monte suggested while Ashton got out of the car shutting the door letting the radio play from inside.

''Should we still be going this way?'' he asked looking to John, he thought for a bit before looking to the wood's beside them ''Maybe we should stay off the road for a bit.'' he said and looked at them, they nodded getting their gun's out before walking to the tree line ''We won't go to far into the wood's, just here is fine, if we see some of the dead we'll be quiet.'' John explained, they nodded understanding and kept to the tree's. Soon the talking got quieter as they left the location of the noise, they watched all around them checking up to the road once in a while.
