Chapter six

John slowed the car down behind some other cars and got out standing on the inside to look over the other cars ahead of them and saw a checkpoint on the left hand side of the highway ''What is it?'' Evin asked from inside, John tried seeing more looking around, seeing a bit military truck blocking the rest of the highway, he sighed and got down getting back in shutting the door ''The checkpoints right up the road and they aren't letting anyone pass.'' he said and looked to the side seeing they were near a dirt path probably leading around everything ''Hang on.'' he stated and turned going around some of the car ''I thought you said this couldn't go off road?" Evin asked he nodded ''Yeah, I know, but do you really wanna wait and find out what's going on?'' Jean looked back towards the cars seeing something fast but they were already on the dirt path by the time he could've seen something.

John drove them down the path away from the traffic jam ''Did you see that?'' Jean asked turning to Ash who shook his head ''No, what?'' Jean turned and tried looking back at the road but saw that Georgia was blocking the view with the car following them ''Never mind, it was probably nothing.'' Jean said and turned front, the bumps were varied from large to small ''See it's managing.'' John stated but soon slammed the breaks after someone ran out in front of them, he stared at them until they turned looking at him, there was a large wart on their right arm pulling them down, they reached out with their left arm about to charge at them.

John then revved the engine making Evin look at him ''Hang on.'' he said again and sped forward hitting it, he kept driving over it till they finally passed over they followed the path till it spit them out on another road, they stopped before going out completely and looked back seeing the same military truck blocking the road ''It was a circle?'' Evin asked and looked at him, John shrugged and drove out onto the road, as they did they passed by a military jeep. John sighed seeing the driver and the two other soldiers beside him ''Shit.'' he swore and sped up while the jeep spun around driving after them.

Georgia just exited the path and looked the way the two jeeps were driving ''I saw we leave them.'' she stated and Jordan turned to her ''No, we can't just leave them be, their are friends?'' Georgia scoffed ''Their your friends.'' Nathan rolled his eye's and exited the car, Tori followed him, Georgia parked and got out looking at them walking down the road, ''Where are you going?" she asked, Nathan turned around ''I can't stand it anymore, listening to you guy's fight about John all the time.'' Georgia groaned ''Fine, we'll follow him.'' she said getting in, Nathan rolled his eye's looking down at Tori who sighed ''Better then walking.'' she said and Nathan looked down the road before getting in the car again.

John herd the other jeep catching up and got an idea, he suddenly slammed the breaks sending everyone forward while the jeep passed by, John backed up and placed his head on the seat ''Sorry.'' Evin pushed looked down seeing his seatbelt locked keeping him up, Jean opened his eye's and looked outside ''What the hell John?'' Jean asked, John looked out the front while Ashton groaned behind him, the soldier's got out of their jeep and John sighed reaching back grabbing his pistol and cocked it back, Evin stopped him from getting out ''Please don't start something.'' Evin begged, John looked over seeing them walking over and put the gun in a holster under the dash on his side, the soldier opened the door pulling John out ''How'd you get past the jam?'' John looked over seeing Georgia showing up and groaned.

The other guards got everyone out of the cars and moved them to the middle of the street and John could tell who was in charge seeing the higher ranking badge on his chest ''Are any of you bit or infected?'' John looked up at him as he scanned everyone ''No.'' he said, the ranking officer then stopped looking at Evin ''Then why is he paler then the rest of you?'' he asked walking over ''That's just his skin color.'' Evin looked up at him ''His eye's are darker as well.'' he said crouching down, John tried getting up but one of them stopped him ''He's not bit or infected.'' one of the other officer's looked over to Evin seeing what the officer was seeing but he knew other wise.
