Ah! so frustrating. The notes of the melody were challenging. The sound of a violin resonated through the music room, nobody but Kate was there so it wasn't like anyone could hear her miss some of them. Most were busy dealing with life somewhere else. She couldn't concentrate properly though.
"Why isn't there just two notes in the same place"
She had practiced for over an hour now on the new melody and felt her arms cramping. She laid down her violin and took her phone out. Why isn't she answering? Max hadn't come to school today after what happened yesterday and on top of that, she said she had to go talk to her parents. But she hadn't answered her calls and it was getting late.
To think that Max could actually rewind time. Kate sat down on a piano bench and sighed. Imagine what she must have gone through pushing her limit like that. Quiet steps could be heard from outside the room making Kate look up expecting to see someone out to no good.
"Hey, thought I would find you here. "
Silently walking in, Max gave a faint smile while holding tightly around the strap of her bag. Kate came in for a hug and Max accepted it without resisting.
"Why haven't you answered my calls, I was worried when you didn't show up earlier."
"Yeah my bad, I'm sorry. It's just that I wasn't feeling too good after, you know, rewinding time. Normally I don't get this beat up after doing it."
"Yea, about that. I still don't understand how it works. And for how long? And where did you get it? Please tell me."
Max leaned back and looked away in search of chairs, then she pulled to chairs together and made a gesture for Kate to sit. She took place in front of max and leaned over a bit.
"Do you remember when we first met? Or when we first talked back in Acadia Bay."
"Yeah, that was the time just after that video went viral."
Kate froze up, she looked down and unconsciously clutched her hands. Feeling Max take her hand made her look up and smile.
"After the class, I went to the bathroom to clean myself up. And when I was about to leave, yeah. That's when Chloé and Nathen came barging in..an-and I hit. They had an argument, that quickly escalated. That's when Nathan pulled out a gun and threatened Chloé..."
There was a brief silence, Max was staring absentminded out into the air. Kate squeezed her hand and to comfort her.
"Jesus Max, I can't believe that actually happened."
"Well, he ended up shooting Chloé right there on the spot, however, because I jumped out to help, I somehow discovered this power. By accident, I reversed time to just before the class was over and we spoke together again. I went through it all several times in my attempt to save Chloé because I couldn't control it properly.
But I learned it also came with consequences to alter the flow of time. That day with the storm, I'm pretty sure I caused it because I intervened. So I ended up losing Chloé, after all, to prevent the storm from continuing to cause havoc."
Although Kate had listened patiently without interrupting, she was clearly doing her best to cope with the bunch of new information. Understanding how difficult it must have been, Max put on an optimistic smile.
