Carry On, Carry On

"A million words will not bring you back, I know because I tried, neither would a million tears, I know because I cried."
~unknown

The cafeteria was buzzing. Young students were crowded around one another begging each other for answers to the increasingly hard homework put upon them, and making deals with older kids to just try and pass. The elder students were some what dead looking, if not that then way to relaxed for the end of the year. As the school year was nearing it's close students were giving a half assed final push, hoping to just make it through to summer. Yet the teachers weren't letting up and if anything were increasing the work and difficulty of said work. The school board wasn't even intervening to try and lessen the strain they were focused on something else, they were trying to find a guilty subject; or at least on that could look guilty enough to take the fall.

The only table in the cafeteria that seemed off during this time though was their table. Meeks and Pitts were chatting, what would be considered cautiously to anyone else but for there situation could be called, lively, Cameron was attempting to shake answers and study tips off some kids who just so happened to be at the table, and Charlie was telling stories that were distracting said kids from Cameron's problems, but there was one person who looked genuinely better though and that was Todd. Todd was smiling, small as it was it brought the spirits up, even laughing and adding small details to add to the extravagance of Charlies stories. The over all mood might have looked normal in the atmosphere of the hall but it definitely was out of place for their table.

As Grace and Knox walked in they were noticed by a few eyes but were ultimately unnoticed by most in the hall. Todd who had been in high spirits seemed to relax and enjoy himself even more after the other two arrived. He felt as if his puzzle was being filled in, though the missing piece would always be missing, maybe just for today he could handle just one piece missing. Just for today.

Of course as breakfast was coming to an end and the time for lessons was almost upon them the Dean of the school stood up from his chair and very loudly made a scene to get attention on him. He looked over the faces of the students and stopped his gaze on their table.

"We have some good news students, we are getting closer to finding out who pushed our brightest student to kill himself, if ANYone has ANY information to give now would be the time to do so. If you come clean right now the punishment won't be near as severe as if you don't come clean and don't admit to your wrong doings. I know I haven't given this speech in a while but I would like to remind everyone that Mr. and Mrs. Perry are still grieving and have no closure as to who could have pushed their son to do this to himself. If not for yourself and the punishment you will receive you should do it for them." After the speech he got up and left. The atmosphere of the cafeteria remained in a awkward still for a few seconds but was returned to normal as kids left to classes. The table was silent and Todd was visibily shaking.

Grace was pissed off, beyond that even, who gave that dick a right to say stuff like that! He didn't even know Neil! She was fuming on the inside and rigidly got up but almost sat back down when Todd grabbed out to her. She looked at him, and yanked him with her, out of the hall. The rest followed shortly after mixing in with the rest of the crowd. She pulled the boy into the nearest bathroom and glared hard at everyone else in the bathroom. Once they all left she took a deep breath and pulled Todd in front of her.

"Are you ok?" Her eyes filled with concern for a moment over taking her anger.

"I'm ok, just hurt a bit. Felt like he was re opening a wound. I should be fine though." He smiled and wiped his eyes. The tears he wiped were only replaced with new tears.

She looked at him and pulled him into a hug, one hand kept his head in her shoulder while massaging his scalp while the other held his back patting and rubbing. He kept trying to wipe the tears but the small cry turned into big sobs. Soon snot and tears mixed as they cascaded down his face and onto her uniform. This boy was a mess. As he cried, he took her back to two months ago, when the hurt was actually fresh, when they had to rapidly deal with life without Neil.

Hello everyone it me! So a lot happened this chapter and in the next you'll find out what happened right after Neil died and how they kept Cameron form spilling his guts. Don't get me wrong he's still going to be a little shit here but we have to build up to that. The school board is also about to be little dicks by ripping off the scabs. Last thing, this is where the movie kinda becomes the authors story. The author says thank you for the 30? Reads so far, very inspiring for her or whatever. See you all next chapter!
