Briar-Rose loved the ocean.

It wasn't the crystal blue waters that mixed in with the lights from the sun to create a canvas of colors. Or the smooth feel of the water between her toes. Nor was it the salty smell of the beach, that she woke up to every morning. No, she loved the noises that came from the ocean.

The gentle crashes of the waves that looked so gentle but were anything but. The noise of a splash caused by a small girl or boy in District Four or even the bubbles of the water rising to the surface. They all filled her stomach with a bubbly feeling that could calm even the worst of thoughts.

She sat on the small pier that her grandmother, Mags, possessed as part of her mansion in the Victor's Village. As Briar dangled her small toes over the smooth waters, unable to touch the water due to her short stature, she looked at the buoy bob in the water.

A huge grin fell on the girl's face as the brown haired girl listened to the screech of a small white seagull flying over to a piece of driftwood next to the brunette, "Hello there, Mr. Seagull," Briar formally greeted the indifferent bird.

Her body jolting up excitedly, "I have a joke for you," she whispered, "What do you call a seagull that flies over the bay?"

"A bagel," A masculine voice stated from behind the young girl earning a causing the hairs on Briar's arms to stand on edge.

Briar wasn't fazed once she realized it was just a strange boy. She was in fact amazed by his ability to know her joke, "Yeah. How did you know?" she narrowed her eyes at the tall boy, "Are you psychic?"

The girl's eyes twinkled with disbelief but knew better than to doubt the magical abilities of the world.

The tall bronze-haired boy looked at her with a genuine smile. A smile that he hadn't worn ever since he left the Games a few weeks ago. He watched the young girl intently, unable to believe that someone could be so innocent.

Briar patted a spot on the old pier next to her, "Sit. My name is Briar-Rose Flanagan," Briar said proudly, giving him a toothy smile, revealing one missing tooth.

The boy responded, "Finnick Odair."

Finnick had known the young girl for a long time. During his time training with Mags, he learned all about the young girl who seemed to have an eye for trouble. He couldn't help but wish to know more about the young girl, asking Mags more details about her only grandchild. But now that he was sitting next to the young girl, he couldn't have been more intrigued by her.

As Briar looked more closely at Finnick, she noticed that his hair was, in fact, a bronze color, and it was curled more than most people's in their district. His skin was slightly more tanned than her own fair skin and was free of any blemishes. What made him handsome, however, was his sea green eyes. That looked like they waves during a storm at night. Beautiful but deadly.
