~Ivan Posh's Pov~

I held Gianna's hand in my own and ducked down, going into the garden. I pulled her out of the door and made her stay behind me, locking the door right after she was inside with me.

"How ironic that I give you a bouquet of flowers and here we are- in our sacred garden filled to the brim with flowers." I said playfully, rolling my eyes.

I stood back up, pulling Gianna up with me. We both strolled down the narrow pathway up to our favorite spot. I plucked out a rose swiftly while we were walking. The fairies tinkled; doing their job to keep the garden neat. I smiled slightly, loving the peaceful vibe I always got when I was here.

We sat down in our spots and I let go of Gianna's hand, not noticing her frown right after I did so. I kept staring at the beautiful scenery in front of us, the sun shone on my face but I loved it. It made me feel free.

"What's wrong?" I heard Gianna whisper to me, as I turned my head to look at her.

"Hm?" I questioned, snapping back to reality. I saw her smile softly at me, tucking a strand of her red hair behind her ear.

"It's just- you're never really quiet. You only do that if something's bothering you." She explained, biting in her bottom lip.

"Well, something is bothering me in fact." I said to her, looking away from her as she nodded.

"There's this new maid and she is- how do you call it?" I took a small pause to find the right word.

"Confusing." I settled on the word.

"She is clumsy, confusing but overall intriguing." I continued on.

"I've been observing her for the three days she's been at my kingdom- and she's a sweet girl. She's been very helpful and very quiet. She never complains and the bad thing is that the old maids in my kingdom take advantage of her- and I highly disapprove of it. I'm going to talk to mother about it when she gets here." I told Gianna glancing at her as her face held some kind of emotion that I couldn't decipher.

"Why would you care for a commoner like her?" Gianna's angry voice shocked me.

"What do you mean?" I asked in confusion.

"Like- she isn't that special. She's just a maid- nothing more. Us royals aren't supposed to even be involved with people like them! We are an example." She gestured between both of us with her hand.

"We are acceptable. We are normal. We have a reputation to uphold." She explained, and then continued.

"Ivan- that girl you were talking about- she would only use you for fame and money. That's what all commoner's do. They are not worth anything unlike us. Trust me- at first she won't complain and then the next- she would be complaining twenty-four seven. She's new to this maid life so she will act all innocent and happy, and then she would make so many silly mistakes." She said, still angry.

A frown settled on my face as I replied to her rant, "Not all commoners are like that. They are also humans- they make mistakes just like us. Don't think we're all superior and things like that. We are all equal- it's just us royals have a bit more authority than the commoners."

"Ivan..."Gianna said softly, mumbling a sorry under her breath when she saw me sigh out.

"It's fine." I said quietly, rubbing a hand down my face in frustration.

Gianna and I never had a conversation like this. We never really had an argument that made us angry at each other. We've only gotten to the point where we were very annoyed at one another but never angry. We also have never talked about anyone that wasn't family or Ms. Syrean.

I still held the rose in my hand, plucking out a petal and then handing the flower to Gianna; making no attempt to talk any time soon. She took it out of my hand and mumbled out a thank you. I didn't pay much attention to her, I only observed the petal.

The petal looked extraordinary. It was soft in between my fingers and had an evenly coated color of maroon. It had carvings and details on it but I felt no bumps when I skimmed my fingers over it. My thoughts went back to the new maid and I felt my heart leap out of my chest as I remembered what she looked like. I closed my eyes and ignored the tension in the air, focusing on her.

After a couple of minutes, Gianna cut the tension by speaking up.

"Ivan, let's go." She whispered, standing up and patting her dress down.

I opened my eyes and stood up, using the tree as support as I stood up. I walked past Gianna without saying a word to her, seeing her hesitantly walk after me. I unlatched the lock and ducked under, going through the door- not waiting for Gianna.

What happens in the garden stays in the garden. So when we went through the door, I felt myself go calm, but I still had an uncomfortable feeling settling in my stomach.

That's when I heard Ms. Syrean shout for us.

"GIANNA! IVAN! Come here right away!" I heard Ms. Syrean cry out in horror, making me jog towards her voice with Gianna right beside me.

Little did I know that- that was the cry of something that would completely change our lives forever.
