Author Ashton here! Just wanted to leave a little key up here for new readers or anyone that is confused. I try to differentiate how people are communicating with the bold/italics modes.
"Italics like this indicate Akiara is reading thoughts, or transmitting her own"
Bold like this indicates sign language. Punctuation won't always be prevalent here since you don't typically sign punctuation.
"Just plain like this is usually going to indicate reading lips."
"And if you get a mix of both, there is mind reading/transmission while hands are signing"
And I'll try to keep underline to specifics while in bold/italics or when I feel like giving updates.
Thank you guys!! Enjoy the start of the story below!"These two again"
They'd kept me for six months when I was seven. I made their ears bleed with a mental blast of rage when the blonde one tried to use his explosion quirk on me. Redhead brought me back to the agency the next day. But here they are, six years later, with adoption papers of all things. At least the redhead was smiling. The blond never did. I focused my mind on the blond, trying to ignore the headache it gave me.
"She's going to think we are crazy. I can't believe I let the red haired loser convince me that we needed a kid. She nearly killed us last time!" His scowl gave me no hope as I focused on the redhead instead.
"I hope Akiara is okay with this. I filled these out when they were with us last time. But they don't look too happy we're here though. Maybe I shouldn't have brought Bakugo." I winced as I released my quirk the throbbing headache a good indicator that I would have it awhile.
I felt a tap on my shoulder, raising my attention to the social worker I'd been staying with. I flinched away from him, noting the protective stance the blond took after I reacted. Maybe he cared after all.
Time to go brat He signed, smirking as he knew too well the blond and redhead didn't know sign language, they refused to learn last time. I will miss terrorizing you, bastard. Now get out of here. He signed, placing his hand on my shoulder.
Here goes nothing, I smiled as my eyes faded to blue, watching fear collect in the social workers eyes. The blond covered his ears, but this was only for the social worker. I let out a scream in my mind, my headache gone migraine as the social worker let out a verbal scream, covering his ears as blood crept out of them. I grabbed my journal and stepped around him, smiling to the redhead who gave me an unconvincing smile back. He had my backpack in his hand, carrying the total of four belongings I had.
"Let's go," he mouthed, scratching his neck nervously. He knew I couldn't hear him. My eyes faded to blue again.
"You really need to learn sign language" He flinched at the sudden voice, the mental echo the closest he'd ever hear to my actual voice. He nodded sheepishly then glared at the blonde who must've said something when I wasn't looking. This was such an interesting duo to end up together, let alone adopt me. Well either I, or them, were going to regret it. But maybe the blond wouldn't be too bad once he found out I planned on attending UA in two years. My goals would line up with his.
The blond stomped out of the building, his hands noticeably clammy with his sweat. I would remember to stay away from those hands this time. The three of us walked in silence, my migraine echoing with every step. I over used it with the social worker. We got to the train station and headed to where the two males live. The redhead tapped my shoulder, giving me an apologetic smile. He tapped his own head and pointed at me. I met his eyes and focused, nodding when I heard his jumbled mess of thoughts.
"I really hope it's okay that we adopted you. I was working on it last time and the agency and Bakugo were fighting me on it. I think you are really special and I want to be a part of your life for the better. You have hero potential, no matter what people have told you before, and I needed you to hear that." He started doubting himself, his thoughts scrambling into a mess. I released and my eyes faded to blue.
"The blond scares me, but the two of you have been there more than others. He has got to get over his egotistical self, if he ever plans to have a relationship with me. And again, you really need to learn sign language. My quirk gives me migraines." My eyes returned to their normal red colour and the train station begin to spin. The redhead caught my arm, supporting my weight. He pointed to himself then begin to finger spell E-I-J-I-R-O K-I-R-I-S-H-I-M-A I made the letter K and signed red hair with the letter, pointing to him, he smiled, copying my sign. I pointed to the blond and Kirishima finger spelled K-A-T-S-U-K-I B-A-K-U-G-O I made the B, and signed explosion. He copied me again, smiling at the simplicity of the signs. He continued to hold me against his side, his arm slightly rigid as he used his quirk to protect me. We quickly boarded the train after Bakugo.
I spent the next two years training, especially since Bakugo made it difficult. He refused to speak to me except through thought. Kirishima learned sign language from me and took additional classes once a week to get better. Moving schools was difficult, but I was just the silent kid in the back. My teachers left me alone, knowing I was deaf. I just taught myself everything anyways.
Then just like that it was the morning of the entry exam for UA.
