Days. It had been days since the exams, and I still hadn't heard from U.A. Bakugo hadn't spoken to me since the exams. He thought I was weak for ignoring the other robots to save the girl. He hadn't stop thinking that since I had come home in the ambulance. I still had a dull headache and a sore throat from overusing my quirk. That physical scream was something new. I hadn't known my vocal cords even worked. Kiri thought I had done amazing and showered me with gifts and my favourite foods since I had come home. At least one of them believed in me.
The lights flickered, drawing my attention to Kiri standing in the doorway of my room. He held in envelope in his fingers, a grin on his face. I took it from him, staring at the U.A. logo that sat on the front. I want to see it alone, for now. I signed, holding the thick paper tight between my hands. He nodded, kissing the top of my head before shutting the door behind him.
I knew I had thirty-one points from the robots I had taken down. I prayed it was enough and ripped open the letter. A disk fell out, landing on the table as a hologram took up my room. A green haired hero stood before me, signing my name. He explained how I scored on the written exam, a nearly perfect score, and then dove into the robot fight. Somehow I had managed forty points. Some others got destroyed when I saved his daughter. So that's who the green haired girl was. Apparently saving her gave me seventy hero points. I stared at the screen, my name beside a hundred and ten points overall.
THIS IS YOUR HERO ACADEMIA
I stared at the words on the image until it faded, silence taking me over again, my heart returned to normal. I fished out the papers that had shared space with the disk. I had a lot of books to buy, one of them being a sign language book. They'd added the mandatory language course to accommodate me. I had to mail back my hero costume requests within the week and get my parents to sign a permission form for me to live in the U.A. dorms, and not only was I accepted into U.A., but into the 1-A class that both my dad's were in. I grabbed my backpack and slid on my converse, grabbing the disk to show it to Kiri. I slid the papers in a folder to put into my bag, my wallet added to the mix. I wanted to get my books now, before all the good copies were taken. I dropped the disk in front of Kiri as I left my room.
I'll be back I signed, hitting the play button and running out the door. There must have also been sound to the disk for Kirishima because I saw Bakugo join Kiri to watch.
"Not that damn nerd Deku!" I heard him think before I turned my quirk off, heading out to the bookstore down our street. Hopefully they had my books, for a cheap at that.
16,097.25 yen ($150) later I hitched my book bag on my back, preparing to head back to the house. A figure stepped in my path, running my blood cold as I looked up into blue eyes. I knew he couldn't control me as long as I didn't make a sound out loud.
"My dear child. You have surprised us with such a wonderful hidden quirk." He must have seen my exam somehow. "Come with me. The league could use you after all." He reached to grab me and I jumped back, swinging my bag off my shoulder, catching his side. I knocked the breath out of him, as he rolled onto the ground.
"I will never join you Fuzen. I will disappoint you until you rot in a jail cell for life" I spat into his head turning my back and running away from my father. I pulled my bag back on my back as I went. I didn't sense him follow, but I played it safe and circled my house before going to enter the backdoor. I didn't want to lead him to Kiri. They didn't need to know that he'd come back for me. Bakugo would never trust me again, not that he does anyway.
I got stopped by a bone crushing hug, delivered by red hair. I returned the hug before pushing back to sign where I had gone.
We will go next week to buy stuff for your dorm. Me and Bakugo have hero duty this week. he responded. I am so proud of you I noticed his hero costume at that point.
R-E-D R-I-O-T I spelled, smiling. Good luck, be safe.
I will. Love you kid. He ruffled my hair, calling for Bakugo who appeared in his black and orange costume.
G-R-O-U-N-D Z-E-R-O I spelt, Kiri nodding at me. I was proud of my parents in this moment, that is until Bakugo started yelling angrily about something. I felt like it was directed at me, but I slipped into my room anyway, ignoring him. I caught Kiri's apologetic look before I shut my door, flopping on my bed.
I couldn't wait to get to U.A. and live in the dorms. I would miss Kiri but I would be away from Bakugo after these rough few years. It wasn't as bad as living with the social worker, but Bakugo made it really hard for me to enjoy time with him. He had a big heart, but unfortunately a bigger ego. On the bright side, hopefully moving to U.A. would bring that green haired girl if she passed the exams. I fell asleep thinking about U.A. and what was to come in my future.
