Chapter 47

The heat was spreading, it was spreading to every fibre of my being. I felt as if I was being burned alive.

I couldn't take it anymore. It had to stop! Make it stop! I clawed furiously at my skin, trying to make the fire stop but it wouldn't.

I don't how but I ended up on the floor, clawing at my skin, and when the fire became too much and it felt as if my lungs were going to burn to ash, I let out an ear piercing scream.

My scream filled the silent castle walls but I didn't care. All I needed was to make this pain stop.

I don't know when it was but someone, no it was more than just one person, came stumbling into my chambers, alarmed and ready to attack.

From my position on the floor I could see two sets of boots come rushing towards me. The two men I noticed knelt down besides me and tried to touch me, no they were shaking me.

It was only after they began yelling, that I realised it was Killian and Luca.

"Luna! Luna, are you alright?!" Luca, yelled as he shook my shoulders.

"Does she look alright to you, idiot?!" Killian barked back. I rolled over and away from their hands, into a tight ball. My only reply was louder groans of pain, it was all I could manage.

"Killian, why are you looking at Luna like that?!"

"Like-like what?"

"Like you want to-I don't know, you just shouldn't be looking at her like that!" Luca sounded as if he was hyperventilating but I was too sore to move around again and try to face them. I was fine not being able to see them, the only thing on my mind right now was this excruciating pain.

"Lu-Luca, my wolf, he can smell her and she-she smells kind of ah...good!"

"What! Killian do you have a freaking death wish! If-if the Alpha heard you talk about his mate like tha-"

"Shut up Luca! I can't help it! I don't know what's going on!"

"Wait, Luna, do you feel as if you are...well-um on fire, by any chance?" Luca asked tentatively.

"Ye-yes," I croaked out between clenched teeth. I heard Luca and Killian suck in a breath at the same time.

This can't be good.

Luca said, "She's on heat?!" at the exact same time that Killian said, "They haven't done it yet?!"

If I wasn't in so much of pain I would have smacked Killian around his head but wait, Luca said that I'm in heat?!

Heat, but that's- that's impossible, it's too soon. Actually no, Xavier and I are technically supposed to have already done the naughty, relatively quite quickly after we met and marked each other.

Heat is basically mother natures way of pushing us to mate and speeding up the process, however it isn't exclusive to just your mate.

You see when a she wolf goes into heat, she sends out a rather appealing smell, that attracts any unmated male. She becomes sort of appetising to them.

She's also increasingly aggressive, anxious, extremely emotional, feels yearning for her mate and basically just a wreck. I should have picked up on the signs sooner.

I'm such an idiot.

The downside is that she goes through an extreme amount of pain. I think I'm experiencing a more painful one than usual because we are both marked and haven't mated yet.

It's basically like your period and labour pains on steroids, plus you feel as if you are literally burning on the inside. It lasts for a few days and nine point nine times out of ten, the she wolf gets a male partner to, well lets see, make the heat stop. Nine point nine times out of ten, her mate is the one, making the heat stop and there to fend of any other unmated males.
