(Written for Anna, Jake, Bree, Riley, and Angel. You are all warriors, and you've come so far. I'm so proud of you all. Never stop fighting.)
The cafe looks happy,
But only at a glance.
It seems that they're living life
In a happy, carefree dance. But there's a boy by the window.
And his arm is still scarred.
From the razor he used
To mirror the cuts on his heart. And there's a girl at that table.
Who lays awake to sob alone.
She looks to God up in heaven
Crying, “Why do I feel so unknown?”Just see the man looking to the alleyway
Who wished his life was taken by his mother..
He hasn't eaten in days,
Hoping the pain is replaced by the hunger. But don't miss the girl who came in from a jog
Wearing a long sweatshirt in the summer.
She tries to hide the body that she hates
And is trying to get the looks of anotherRemember the teen there from your school,
Who sits through lunches on her phone?
It's her third school of the year,
And she wonders if she'll always be alone. And see the barista’s plastic smile
That hides a world of pain.
Her boyfriend was playing with her heart
And he just dropped it down a drain. In surprise, you start to finally realize
That these fakers are not so different from you.
Because while you were wishing you were one of them,
Ignorant of their truth,
They were wishing that they could be you.
