After deciding that they weren't going to fill the car and instead just take what was already in their bags, they got back into the cars and drove away from the stores.
Everyone was silent in Rick's car. Daryl gazed out of the window, Lottie down into her lap. Daryl turned his head as if to say something but then turned back to the window. After a couple moments he turned again and then back. Finally he said something.
"Why did you make me go up that ladder first?" He asked carefully.
"I'd seen the walker, you hadn't, if you'd seen it you would've made me go first. I was trying to protect you I guess." Lottie replied quickly.
"Why would you want to protect me?" Daryl questioned again.
"You're a better fighter than me, the group needs you more than they need me." She replied sadly still looking at her lap and feet.
Rick listened, still focused on the road. Daryl fell silent again.
The drive felt longer than it had hours before. It dragged out, the awkward silence worsening the lengthy journey.
It was only when Lottie saw the little sign that read "Greene" that she relaxed. Seeing everyone racing from their tents and the house to welcome them back. Lori almost in tears holding onto Carl.
All that Lottie wanted was to go to her tent and disappear until the next morning, she didn't want anymore questions or story telling. Just quiet and sleep.
Lottie was exhausted.
