"Chelsea Miller!" The nurse tech yelled into the clinic lobby. "Here I am." Chelsea responded while rushing toward the nurse tech. "What's your date of birth?" "December eleventh two thousand and four." "Where's your parent or legal guardian?" "There she is." Chelsea responded while pointing towards the clinic entrance where Stacy was walking in from taking an important call. "She has to come back here with you because you aren't eighteen or older." The nurse tech said. "Oh she is." Chelsea said waving for Stacy to come too the back.
After the nurse tech took all her vitals, demographics they all proceeded too the exam room where Chelsea got setup and situated while waiting for the doctor too appear.
"Hello there Stacy, who's this gorgeous young lady we have here, Miss Chelsea Miller ." Dr. Jackie said while entering the examination room. "Hello there, this young lady here is my niece, my sister Sheila daughter." "Oh yeaaa, this the one you're always telling me about. She's the one that wants to be a pediatrician?" "Yes, that's her." Stacy responded.
Dr. Jackie and Stacy were great friends. Not only has she been her OB-GYN for the past fifteen years. They also went to school together and hung out for drinks sometimes.
"Hello Dr. Jackie, nice to meet you." Chelsea interjected. "Aren't you some pretty." "Thank you, you're gorgeous yourself." "Well not nearly as you." Chelsea and Dr. Jackie shared a smile.
"So what brings you ladies in today?" Dr. Jackie asked. "Well my niece is at that age where I think she's become sexually active, because she has a older boyfriend and all that. So I want to get her checked out and on birth control if possible." Stacy responded. "How old are you Chelsea?" Dr. Jackie asked. "I'm fifteen, I'll be sixteen in two months." "Okay, have you ever had a pap smear before?" "No ma'am I haven't." "Do you know what a Pap smears is?" "Yes ma'am, I do." "Okay so now I'm about to ask questions about your personal business. Are you okay with your aunt Stacy staying in here for this?" Dr. Jackie asked. "Yes ma'am I'm okay with it." "Okay, so are you sexually active?" "Yes ma'am, I am." "Okay, do you guys use protection?" "Yes ma'am we do." "Okay, so lay back, scoop all the way to edge of the table and put your feet in the stirrups." Chelsea proceeded too do as instructed. "You'll feel a little pressure but it shouldn't be any excruciating pain. Just a lot of pressure." "Yes ma'am." Chelsea responded.
Dr. Jackie and Chelsea chatted and made casual conversations as she did her vaginal exam and took samples for testing.
"All done young lady, you can sit-up now." "That was fast." Chelsea said. "Yes I know, did it hurt?" "No, just a lot of pressure like you said it would be." "Well good, get dressed and I'll be right back with your choices of birth control methods." "Yes ma'am."
Chelsea begin to put her clothes back on before the Dr. Jackie returned. It wasn't as scary as she thought it was going to be.
"Chels, you're really having sex?" Stacy asked in a disappointed tone of voice. "Tee Stacy lets not do this here please?" Chelsea said. "Okay, but we're talking about it when we get in the car." "Okay, don't be acting different either." "I'm not, I just wanna make sure you're protecting yourself because I don't want you to be a teen mom." "I know auntie, I know." Chelsea said right before the doctor walked back into the room.
Dr. Jackie showed her the different pills, patches, shots, IUDs and implants. Chelsea chose one of the Implants and they scheduled her appointment to have it inserted into her arm. Stacy and Chelsea checked out with the receptionist and headed toward the car.
"So when were you gonna tell me you were having sex?" Stacy asked as soon as they both sat in the car. "Dang Tee Stacy let me get in the car all the way geesh." "Well hurry up because I want to know." "Well that's not just something you say too someone that thinks so highly of you." "So what you thought I was going to judge you?" "No Tee Stacy, I just didn't okay." "I'm not fussing I just don't want you to make the same mista..." Stacy stopped in the middle of her sentence and instantly became engulfed in a deep thought. "Tee Stacy, what were you about to say?" Chelsea asked snapping her back into the conversation. "Chelsea I never told you this but I got pregnant at sixteen okay, my mom made me get an abortion. She didn't give me a choice she just knew she wasn't going to help me raise a baby and she knew I was going to finish school." Stacy said while holding back tears. "Wait , you were pregnant?" Chelsea asked. "Yes Chels, by a boy I thought I was going to be with forever and was so in love with. I don't want that for you. I've dealt with getting that abortion everyday of my life from that day forward." "I don't know what too say Tee Stacy." "I don't want you to say anything, I just want you to listen. At the age you're at its natural for you to think you've met the love of your life and that's the person you're going to be with forever but that's not reality. Yes, you have some fairytale endings thats very rare." "Tee Stacy, I'm not..." "No just listen, you're at the age where you're suppose to be focus on enjoying your life, hanging with friends, and just being a teenage girl. Not raising Lil Charles, not helping Sheila with bills, and being concerned with things your mom should be taking care of. You should be living." "Tee Stacy I'm okay, Lil Charles needs me and I'm going to always look out for him." "As you should that's your brother, but that's all he is not your son." "I know and I get it but I'm okay. I'm doing exactly what I enjoy doing and that's being home, looking after Lil Charles, texting my friends and hanging out when I feel like it." Chelsea said. "Okay Chels, I just want you to know I'm always here for you regardless to what and I love you guys so much." Stacy said. "I know you do Tee and we love you too." "I know that, y'all the kids I never had." "Well it's not too late you know." Chelsea smirked. "Well I gotta get myself a man first Chels." They both burst out laughing. "Well enough of that mushiness let's go get food I'm starving." Stacy says. "Yes, me too where we going?" "Let's go to Jack In The Box." "Sounds good to me." Chelsea responded. Stacy hooked her Bluetooth up too the car stereo and drove off while playing her favorite artist Luther Vandross.
