Chapter 9

I knew the cops were chasing us but all I wanted was to get Ponyboy outta there. We looped around a few houses and soon lost the cops so we ran as fast as we could to his house and ran in. We slammed the door and leaned against it trying to catch our breath. Darry and Soda came running outta there rooms. "Ponyboy?! Y/N?!" Sodapop yelled before Darry cut him off, "How'd you get here!?" We both looked at each other and back at the boys, "W-we ran from the cops.." I muttered. "What?!" Darry yelled, "You ran from the cops?!" I looked down, "Darry, please don't blame Ponyboy. He didn't do anything wrong at all! They were tryna make him go to some prison and wouldn't let me go with him- and..and I grabbed his hand and made a run for it-" Darry cut me off, "You know how much trouble you guys can get into!? You're kids for god's sake! Ponyboy, you can be sent to a boys home and Y/N, you'll be taken from your dad and put somewhere in another state!" I looked at him, "I know Darry! We ain't stupid!" He snapped right back, "Neither of you use your heads! And you know you could get in for more time for runnin!" "Alright! Stop fighting, I can't stand it!" Sodapop yelled. I looked at him, "S-sorry Soda." I sat on the couch and put my head in my hands, "Oh god what have I gotten us into?" I mumbled to myself. Ponyboy must've heard because he sat next to me and wrapped his arms around me, "It's alright Y/N, you didn't do anything. I got us hauled in and none of this would'a happened if I didn't grab the gun-" I cut him off, "Ponyboy if you didn't grab it he could'a shot you too."

He looked at me blankly, I looked down "Ponyboy I'm sorry," I looked at his brothers, "I'm sorry for getting Ponyboy into this and- and making him run with me, you're right Darry I wasn't using my head. I-" Sodapop walked over and wrapped his arms around me and Ponyboy as Darry walked over and joined in on the group hug. "It's okay Y/N, nobody's blaming you and you can't blame yourself either- it's neither of your faults." Sodapop said in a comforting voice. I couldn't help but hug them back. I felt tears streaming down my cheeks. Sodapop and Darry had to get ready for work so they went and got ready. Darry gave us a whole lecture before he left, "You two better stay inside, you can't get caught for now. Stay away from the windows and doors and we'll talk about this when we get home." He and Soda headed for the door and before we knew it they were driving off. I was still crying by then. Ponyboy looked at me and placed one of his hands on my cheek and turned my head so I'd be facing him. Then he wiped my tears, "Don't worry Y/N, we'll get out of this, nothing's gonna happen to us." I looked into his eyes, they were a really pretty shade of green and it looked like there were sparkles in them. I looked at his lips and quickly back to his eyes. I leaned in and kissed him and quickly pulled way. We were both bright red. I looked down at my hands before he put his hand on my chin and turned my head back towards him and leaned in to kiss me back. It felt like seconds but really it was minutes. We both jumped as the door swung open. My best friend Caitlin, and Johnny walked in. Me and Ponyboy scooted away from each other, still bright red. "Hey guys." They said almost in sync. "H-hey Cait, hey J-johnnycakes." I looked at Ponyboy and then at them.
