after a year and a few months spent together, kierra and ace had grown fond of one another. ace took responsibility of going to the market side while kierra guarded and took care of their "home".

kierra sat out on the porch one evening, leaned against the house flicking a lighter as ace crawled up the mountain. he carried a blanket over his shoulder, items wrapped inside.

"ace." kierra beamed and leapt down, rushing up to him. she smiled up at him as he placed a hand to his hip, raising an eyebrow.

"wassup kierra."

"what's that?" she hummed, peering over his shoulder as he turned.

"it's a surprise. go inside and put on something nice."

"are we going out?"

"no." he hummed, flicking her dirty shirt. "but it's nice out today. and i have something special for you."

"are you saying i look bad?" she pouted as he scoffed.

"of course not!" he pushed her away. "just go on, i'll be inside in a minute."

"okay, okay." she shooed his hand away, fleeing inside. kierra took a shower and put on a pale yellow sundress ace had bought her a while. she put her hair up into a bun, loose curls left out in the back. she looked at herself in the mirror, flicking her tail in satisfaction.

she stepped out of the room to find the front door open, a picnic spread out on the ground in the front yard. ace turned and grinned, tilting his head back.

"you came out earlier than i thought." he set the plates down. "i wasn't done."

"what's this?" she stepped off the porch.

"you say i never take you out so i wanted to do something nice for you." he hummed. kierra sat down at the edge of the blanket, looking over the arrangement of fruits and meats. she smiled as he sat down, rubbing his hands together.

"i've been looking forward to this all day." he hummed, reaching forward and grabbing a piece of meat.

"what's this?" she picked up a light green pie, peering down at it as ace hummed.

"key lime pie, kierra." he scoffed. "you've never had it?"

"no?" she whispered as he cut her a slice. she took it, cutting off a piece with her fork before putting it in her mouth. she spit it out, ace tilting his head back and laughing as she twisted her face.

"ace!" she pouted as he leaned forward, beginning to eat again.

"i like that for you." he chewed. "key."

"key?"

"like in kierra." he pronounced as her ears pinned, snatching the meat from him.

"don't call me that." she snapped, ace snatching his food back.

"yeah, yeah." kierra watched him eat as she chewed on grapes, looking up at ace after a few moments.

"thank you." she whispered. "for this. it... means a lot."

"hm?" he looked up as she stared down at the blanket, gripping it gently.

"i..." she stammered. "i never would have thought i would be lucky enough to meet someone like you. i..." she pressed her forehead to the ground. "thank you'" she gritted, tears falling from her cheeks.

"are you...crying?" he cocked his head as she sat up, tears falling from her cheeks.

"no!" she snapped. he laughed, tilting his head back as she cried harder.
