on the small island of kingstown, the town of okonawu was set up just around the center. a variety of families lived here, harvesting fruits and vegetables in a large garden located near the center of the town. they were peaceful people, with a marine base located on the beach of the town who protected them from any threats.

from the branches of a small tree on the outskirts of okonawu sat a small boy. he glared down at the grass below as he gripped his stick harshly.

"don't go outside the town." he mocked softly before throwing the stick down. "i'll do whatever i want. they'll see- i'm gonna be the strongest marine to ever come from kingstown, Dakota the Great!"

there was a loud crash from a distance away, Dakota squealing in surprise. he fell from the tree, wincing as he slowly stood.

he approached the paw-shaped hole slowly, cowering as he peered over the edge. vitani's body lay limp in the center of the paw, covering in wounds and scratches as Dakota screamed and fell back.

she lifted her head slowly, her curls falling before her face. she ran her hand over her head to pull it back, looking up at Dakota as he shook. She wore thin black tights and a purple crop top, both riddled with holes and tears.

"where am i?" she rasped, standing slowly.

"plea-please don't hurt me!" he cried out as she crawled out of the hole. she stumbled past him, dakota watching as she collapsed weakly. he stared, frozen in shock before slowly moving forward. he poked her cheek as her eyes flew open, glaring at him.

"i'm sorry!" he cried, blocking his face. she panted softly, staring up at him.

"where am i?" she breathed, looking up at the sky.

"this is okanawu." his green eyes reflected worry. "why are you here?"

"i got separated from my crew." she whispered. "i can't move."

"w-why?"

she looked up at footsteps in the distance, gritting her teeth. "people are coming." she rolled onto her stomach and proceeded to crawl forward.

"what are you doing?" he whispered as she gritted her teeth.

"i'll be damned if i get caught by marines in a place like this." she huffed. he blinked, grabbing her arm and dragging her desperately. his small size only allowed him to pull her just enough to get her to the border of the town before she pushed herself up from the hot concrete.

"come on! i can take you to my house and my brother can help you! but we gotta hurry-" he urged her to her feet as she staggered before stumbling after him. he held her hand, guiding her to a large house towards the center of the town. she stumbled in the doorway, Dakota stepping forward.

"Noah!" he yelled frantically. his brother rounded the corner to the kitchen, staring up at vitani who clutched her chest. she breathed heavily as he raised a gun up immediately. he was a tall, strawberry blonde-haired boy with piercing blue eyes. He wore a simply shirt and shorts, freckles coating his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. Dakota had red hair unlike his brother although he shared the blue eyes and freckles Noah had.

"dakota, do you know who this is?! get away from her!"

"she isn't going to hurt us!" dakota stepped before her. "she needs our help- she wants to get back to her friends."

"she has a 430 million berry bounty! she is dangerous!"

vitani gritted her teeth. "if you're gonna kill me then kill me. don't just sit there and shove the damn gun in my face."

"don't kill her!" dakota insisted. noah scoffed softly before lowering the gun. he straightened.

"why are you here?"

"i got separated from my friends and one of the warlords sent me here. i need to get going as soon as possible or get in contact with my family." she rambled, inching forward to collapse in a chair.

"you're hurt." noah noted. "dakota, go get some bandages and alcohol please."

"okay." dakota nodded as vitani looked up.

"do you have a recent newspaper?"

"uh" he looked around the kitchen quickly before reaching out to grab the paper. he handed it to her as she read over it silently. dakota returned with a box of bandages, noah taking it before reaching and grabbing a bottle of alcohol from the counter.

"you should probably go and bathe." he suggested as vitani closed the newspaper.

"do you happen to know anything about where kendrick is? or oboiye?"

"did you hear anything i just said?!" noah scoffed. "no, i haven't, sorry. i could maybe ask my dad when he gets home."

"who is your dad?" vitani hummed.

"an admiral." he answered. "do you mind borrowing some of my clothes?"

"no." vitani answered. she stood, immediately collapsing into noah's arms weakly. he held his breath nervously, vitani resting her forehead into his shoulder.

"dakota go run her bath water, and put some salts in there." noah instructed as dakota gave a worried nod before hurrying upstairs.

"how old are you" vitani hummed as he carried her upstairs.

"19." he took her to the bathroom and helped her undress until she was left in nothing but undergarments.

"you should probably throw those away." she nodded to her clothes before slipping into the tub, bubbles covering her as noah blushed. "they're torn and blood-stained."

"okay, yell if you need anything." noah turned as vitani looked over the package of healing salts beside her.

"hmm." she murmured, watching him close the door.
