“How was your second day at school, Eves?” My mother asked as she sat down at the other end of the table. We were all seated and eating our weekly family dinner. My mother insisted we have them on Wednesday since it was the middle of the week.

“Same as the first day, Mom.” I reframed from stuffing my face with spaghetti, since I knew this is where I’d get the third degree.

“Nothing new? No cute boys?” She gave me a look and I knew exactly what had happened. Fucking Carson blabbed about someone.

“Nope, just me and Nolan.” I sipped my unsweet tea and munched on some toast. I wasn’t allowed the luxury of garlic bread. My mom wanted me to eat extremely healthy now. It was annoying as hell. Don’t get me wrong; I love my family. It’s just I’m a teenager and they’re treating me like I’m a glass doll.

“Nolan? Who’s that?” She had a look of surprise on her face. Whoops, must have forgot to tell her about my new bff.

“My new friend!” I beamed.

“Boyfriend?” My mom got a suggestive smile on her face. I’m just glad that the only people here happen to be my mother, sister, and Carson.

“Evelyn isn’t allowed to date.” Carson glared at my mom and I.

“Yeah, that’s what Daddy says.” Kenzie stuck her tongue out at me. She hates that she doesn’t get as much attention as she was used to. Therefore, she doesn’t like me at all. If she can find a way to rub me the wrong way, she’d do it.

“Your sister is allowed to date, Kenzie. You’re the only one who isn’t.” My mom stroked Kenzie’s brown curls affectionately.

“That’s no fair!” She pouted.

“Kenzie, you’re never gonna be allowed to date as long as I’m alive. Same goes for Ev.” Carson grunted.

“Well, I guess we’ll just have to commit murder, won’t we Kenzie?”

“Mommy, what’s murder?” Kenzie looked up at our mother innocently. I knew she knew exactly what murder was. She watches Carson play video games all the time. Kenzie just wanted to get me in trouble.

“Evelyn Ann, stop teaching Kenzie bad words. Kenzie, if you say that word again you’ll be put in time out.” I glared at Kenzie, and she just crossed her arms and pouted.

“Anyways, it doesn’t matter, because Nolan is my gay best friend.”

“Oh, that’s a little disappointing. You deserve to be happy with a nice, cute boy, Eves.”  My mom frowned at me.

“Well, I will one day.”

“No you won’t.” Carson grunted again.

“Oh really?” I sent Carson a warning glare.
