"How could you forgive him so quickly?" Nolan groaned next to me. It was the next day at school, and I was finally getting through a whole day. I don't remember public school being this hard.
"Yeah, my brother's a dick." Connor shook his head, and draped his arm across Nolan's shoulder and mine.
"Well, we're not dating. We're barely even talking to be honest. He's not taken. He's allowed to do what he wants. I'm not his mother." I shook my head.
Owen is a teenaged boy; sue him for wanting to experience life. Not to mention, I haven't really forgiven him just yet. Sure, we're on talking terms, and I told him we're all good, but we're not. It's still awkward, and I know it'll take time to get back to where we were. Plus, I'm hiding this huge secret from all of them, so I don't deserve to be mad. And I'm really not. I'm just a bit disappointed.
"That's still no excuse, Ev. He's supposed to like you." Nolan sighed. Connor nodded his head.
"That's what you guys aren't getting. He's not supposed to do anything. He can like me if he wants. He's not being forced into liking me, and no one is allowed to tell him he can't like other people." They were beginning to piss me off.
"That's not what we meant, Evelyn." Connor removed his arm from my shoulder.
"Well that's what you're both sounding like. Not to mention, you're making it sound like I'm a charity case. Like he was to like me, because otherwise I'd just be pathetic. You know what, screw both of you. I'm not a charity case anymore." With that, I stormed off.
They aren't allowed to dictate who Owen likes. They're not allowed to be biased. What he did was shitty, yeah, but that's Connor's brother for fucks sake. Even though they've been through hard times, he's supposed to be there for him. I've come to terms with what he did. It's not the end of the world, so they shouldn't be attacking him. Owen is a big boy. He can handle his self.
"Hey, Evelyn!" Matt, a boy in one of my classes, broke me out of my internal rant.
"Hey, Matty." He groaned at the nickname. I heard one of his exs call him that, and after he explained how much he hated it; I couldn't reframe from using it all the time.
"Shut up." He bumped my shoulder with his. "So, did you finish that science homework?"
"Of course. Grant made me."
"Who's Grant, a boyfriend, maybe?" He wiggled his eyebrows at me. I laughed and punched his shoulder.
"More like an older adopted brother."
"So your parents adopted him?"
"No, I adopted him as my brother for whenever Carson is being a douche." He laughed.
"So, I guess he's your brother all the time then." Matt winked at me. He has the prettiest blue eyes.
"Anyways, did you do the homework?"
"No, I was too busy working with these babies." He flexed his arm muscles and smiled at me.
"You had to resort to using your hand then, huh?" I sent him a fake sympathetic smile.
"This is why we can't be friends." He sighed dramatically.
"No, Matty. I think we can't be friends because of that hoard of girls always following you around." I laughed and pointed to the group of girls who were giggling and pointing at Matt.
"No Evie. I think we can't be friends, because of the broding boy always following you around." He pointed over my shoulder, so I turned around. Owen was walking towards us. When I went to laugh it off with Matty, he was gone.
"Hey, E-Bear." Owen hugged my from behind. I turned in his arms, and returned the hug before stepping away from him.
"Hey, O-Bear." I smiled up at him.
"So, I was thinking maybe we should go out for dinner tomorrow night." Owen slung his arm over my shoulders and started walking with me to my next class.
"So, I was thinking maybe you should ask my properly before I consider it." I rolled my eyes at him and huffed out a laugh to show I was only kidding around. Owen removed his arm from my shoulders, and walked in front of me forcing me to stop. He got down dramatically onto one knee, and looked up at me.
"Evelyn Stevens, would you do me the honor and be my date to dinner tomorrow night?"
"Yes, yes, yes! A million times yes!" I grasped my heart dramatically and let out a fake sob. Owen picked me up, and spun me around before carefully setting me down.
"So, pick you up at eight?" Owen kissed my forehead and started to walk away.
"Sounds great!" I called after him and walked into class.
I was giving him the time of day, but I still felt a little hurt. You have to try to get results though, right?
There was a really long wait for a sucky chapter, i'm sorry. But this book is starting to bore me. Matty on the side
