My heart thumped loudly in my chest as Tommy went to go and answer to the person banging on the door. Freddie was quick to follow him pushing a brownie in to his mouth on the way and hiding behind his fathers legs as the door was opened.  I heard the sound of muffled voices and Tommy moving aside, more feet shuffled in through the hall as I turned and focused my attention the dishes that still needed washing. The sound of the door closing rang through my ears, a faint click of the door locking was seemingly unheard by our future dinner.

"Jules! Meet Nina and Travis, they're car broke not so far away. This is my wife Julie." Tommy came over and kissed my temple. I turned and shook hands with Travis and Nina. They weren't the...thinnest of people. Nina's hair travel past her waist and Travis had a buzz cut that reminded me of Tommy's old hair style. I convinced him to grow out his hair slightly so it brushed his ears slightly. It became curlier after he had showered but he didn't like it too much when I ran my fingers through it at night.

I offered them both a drink while Tommy left with Travis to 'go find a map to the nearest town'. I turned to the kettle and grabbed a few mugs out of the cupboard, Jason came up to me with a sweet smile on his face. The same smile he wore when he was excited about something like going to see the family or watching his father kill someone. There was something different about him this time. A hint on nervous tension radiated off him along with the sense of excitement. I was worried that Tommy would get mad if they 'fucked up' or back out from their first killing. I knew Tommy wanted Jason to go first because he was the oldest out of the two boys.

"Oh you're pregnant!"  I heard Nina suddenly call out from the hall after going to the bathroom.

"Err yeah a few months now." I thought it would be obvious considering the size of me.

"That's so sweet...me and my honey bear are expecting as well." I almost chocked on my tea when she said this. She gave me a sickly sweet smile with her pink lipstick. A barbie doll gone wrong had popped into my head when I first saw her. It made me glad to think that my sons would never be socializing with these sorts of women when they eventually got their wives. Her bright pink lipstick was patchy and matched her eye shadow that she had applied to the top of her eyebrows that might as well have not existed at all.

In all fairness I thought she was just...bigger rather than pregnant when I first saw her and by the look on Jason's face I guessed he thought the same thing I did.

"That's amazing! How far along are you?" I asked trying to push back the painful memories of how Emme died.

"Only a few weeks, nothing major yet. We don't have any kids of our own yet so this'll be a first for us." She smiled again. Her high pitched voice was beginning to irritate me when I heard a loud scream come form upstairs.

Nina paled, meaning her bright makeup popped more.  As she tried to stand up Jason pulled out a kitchen knife from the draw behind him and pointed it at her. Steadily she sat back down and looked at me with tears brimming in her eyes. I leaned back against the kitchen counter and rubbed my belly, smiling towards Jason and encouraging his good work.

Something or knowing Tommy someone fell down the stairs crashing into the opposite wall, causing Nina to let out a high shriek. I looked around the door frame to see Travis lying at the bottom of the stair with his eyes rolling around like he was in a daze. Tommy followed behind him, along with Freddie at his heel who ran into a closed door at the opposite end of the hall. Nina cried out again and Tommy rolled his eyes and nodded at Jason who jammed the knife into her leg. Her cries rang through our ears until Tommy punched her in the jaw.

"Shut up, or he does it again..." He warned before nodding at me and having Freddie and Jason help him drag Travis's half conscious body into the room that Freddie was in previously. As soon as the door closed behind the boys Nina turned to me hiccuping.

"Please...why are you doing this..." She begged.

"I'm protecting my family...from people like you..." I replied sweetly enough before turning to grab a water for myself from out of the fridge.

As a grabbed the bottled the fridge was slammed shut by a brute force causing me to cry out in pain as my arm was left trapped inside. Nina stood beside me, pushing her weight against the fridge door, the knife from her leg was now in her hand...pointed at my swollen belly.
