Pidge never wished this upon her. Her hands were sparking, sending green orbs crawling on her skin. She had no clue what any of it even meant. So, after one night with these mysterious powers, the young girl had decided to hide the ability from any and everyone. Currently, Pidge walked down the halls of her high school, The Garrison of Science Advancements, with her hands in her oversized jacket pockets. The teen avoided the students that flocked the halls, hoping that none of them would catch sight of her awful sparking hands. She honestly had too much to focus on, such as graduating, without the worry of some random magical crap. Therefore, she did not desire these attributes.

Everyone remembered the magic days, but unfortunately, babies stopped being born with magical properties so it died out. Now it was the age of science and technology. Pidge was not too interested in magic, but it did intrigue the younger her abundantly. It was all some childish wishes of the seven-year-old girl she was. Now, she was all about science, the magic of the ages. Though, many sought to revive the old magic. She pitied those idiotic, hopeful souls. There is one person who she often considered was the epitome of those kind of people. Takashi Holt.

Takashi was obsessed with the old Garrison, Academy of Magicks and Arts. The boy would go into nonsensical ramblings about how Pidge resembled a very popular and misfortunate students that attended the old Garrison centuries ago. Pidge Gunderson could care less about a Miss Katie Holt, who died a worthless life alone.

She would be lying if she didn’t admit their resemblance. They looked curiously alike, which meant the girl was probably an ancestor. The aggravating and irritating boy happened to bump into at that very moment. “Watch it wand-lover,” she snapped, shoving her sparking hands deeper into her pockets. If he saw them and those green orbs then he would continue to insist about being the reincarnation of Katie Holt.

Takashi lowered his head in apology. “Oh, I am really sorry,” he looked up, “Ah! Pidge. I was just looking for you,” the bulky upperclassman chined, happily looking down at her. He wore that goofy, happy-go-lucky smile that Pidge hated on his face. “I found something of interest in a hidden cubby in library!” he continued.

Honestly, Pidge did not want to have a discussion with the muscle-for-brains. “What is it, football captain?” she mocked, eyes glaring holes into taller boy. Takashi held an expression before shoving an old, yellowed-out yearbook that stank of aged pages in her face. What is that piece of trash?”

Takashi flipped it open and pointed at the old book’s first page. A yearbook from the magic days. “This yearbook is from when Katie Holt was a witch at the Academy of Magicks and Arts. I found about some intense look alikes within her class. Look to higher up on the page. That looks Just like that kid, Lane, and my nephew, Keith! Look, there is even my older sister, Allura, and Hank look-alikes. This cannot be just a coincidence.”

Pidge looked at the contents surprised, but there was an easy scientific explanation for the occurrence, right? “So, they could just be ancestors. I mean this Allura has lighter skin than your Allura. Katie and Hunk do look reasonably like Hank and I, but they are probably just relatives,” Pidge insisted, trying had to not believe the foolery that her upperclassman was spilling no matter how convincing the evidence actually was.

“Look, I was not done. I was there too. As Takashi Shirogane, nicknamed Shiro. The similar features and names are too much of a coincidence. But, here’s the stranger part. At the back, there's a dedication to ‘the heroes of the Garrison -- Katie, Shiro, and Allura.’ Underneath it, there are many handwritings wishing for Katie and Shiro’s love to be eternal. Even a picture exists!” Takashi rambled, flipping through the crusty yearbook pages a couple of times, finishing on a page of groups pictures.

One Katie, Hunk, and Lance in what seemed to be an outdoor eating area stuck to her first. She almost thought she felt a ping in her heart. Her and Hank got along well, but she’s really spoke to Lane. Takashi pointed at a different picture on the other page. One was Katie and a guy who looked much like the Takashi Holt that stood in front of her who she assumed to be Shiro. The two of them were as close as they could get, arms around each other with that age’s Allura and three unknown girls.

Pidge chilled looked at the photo and felt her heart hurt in its cage. “Why are you showing me this?” she asked, voice thin and scared, “What does this have to say about anything?”

Takashi looked Pidge head on. “I think we were lovers in our past life…” The words made the girl choke before she tried to cover it up with a narcissistic laugh. Out of habit, she withdrew her hands from her pockets, revealing her sparking fingers. Takashi eyed them with enchantment, dancing eyes. His smile returned, brighter this time. He let out a high squeal. Pidge was thankful that the halls had emptied out around them already.

Takashi grabbed excitingly at her hands. “Real magic! See? You have to be Katie reincarnated!” he cheered, giddy about her terrible circumstances. The younger girl ripped her hands away, cradling them into her breasts, tilting her body away so the boy could longer see the green orbs that now encircled her palms. Her small, fragile hands throbbed from his touch. Why they had done so confused her.

The throbbing grew until she fell to the ground, desperately trying to quell the agonizing pain that emitted from her hands.

The annoying guy crouched next to her, worry causing his eyebrows to tilt upward. “Oh my heavens, are you alright? Is it your hands. Pidge Gunderson you magic wants to be freed. It has been locked up for more than a decade and a half. You need to free it,” he begged, clutching her upper arm in fear, “You have to use the magic.”

Pidge sneered at him, tearing her arm away and scurrying away from his body, her limbs burning as if whatever resigned in her hands was trying to itch free. “Magic? No way. I do not have that crap. Magic is dead,” she growled, tears of pain filling her tightly closed eyes, “What did you do?”

Takashi scooted closer to her once more--she could feel his firm arm brush against her body and when he spoke again he was next to her cheek. “I did nothing. You have to listen to me and release the magic or it will claw its way out.” Pidge did not trust him, but she knew he had not caused this to happen to her.

So, she gave in. “How,” she inquired, not asking how he knew about having magic. At her words, Shiro offered her a soft smile that made her forget about the pain for a moment. His hand reached for hers and he guided her smaller pair to the floor where he pressed her palms down. Feeling his hands made the pain decrease and return when he let go.

“Bid your magic to release itself,” Takashi whispered and Pidge did as asked. Not even a second past when the pain ceased and a large vine bursted out of the school’s ground, enveloping the hallway in green leaves. “Oh. My. Voltron,” Takashi mumbled, eyeing what Pidge had just created, “You are at least part wizard just like Katie Holt.”

Students rushed out of the classrooms at the commotion of the vines breaking concrete and marble. An upperclassman by the name of Adam rushed over to where Takashi and she sat. “Babe, you okay? What happened? Is this… magic?” he questioned, grabbing at his boyfriend’s large, warm hands. Pidge did not pay attention to the lovebirds. Instead, she stared in horror at her hands. She was weird. She was going to stick out like a sore thumb. Now, she could never live the life she wanted.

“Pidge Gunderson? Takashi Holt? Which one of you can use magic?” one of the teachers questioned, strict tone saying he was not having any of this fantasy crap in this school. Before Pidge could reply, Takshi did.

“I did, sir,” Takashi replied, “I am a wizard and my magic got out of hand when I collided with Miss Gunderson due to surprise.” Whispers immediately followed the statement as Adam looked at Takashi with horror. The tan boy’s hand let go of Takashi’s as he backed away and sunk away into the crowd. Pidge nudged the so-called-wizard to get his attention.

Once Takashi looked behind him at her, she raised her right eyebrow in a questioning glance. She saw no hurt residing in his eyes at his boyfriend’s rejection. In a whisper meant for only her, Takashi said, “I am. My ancestor is Allura and Matt Holt. Matt was a wizard.” Pidge’s eyes widened further, her mouth falling even more open. One thought stayed on her mind: What the hell was happening?

Not exactly the same as I wrote in the epilogue, but I felt this was more appropriate.
