"Three days!? I have to go home. My— my dog!" Pidge blurted, rushing to unclip all the medical machines from herself. Though, before she could rip the IV out, Takashi stopped her. His eyes locked with hers and he eased her back onto the hospital bed.

He gave her a reassuring smile. "Rover was taken to the pound by your mother—ah, sit down, please—and I went to get him after Lane told me about it. He went to check up on your family since only your siblings have stopped by frequently," Shiro told, brushing Katie's long strands of brown hair out of her face. "He's safe at my apartment."

Pidge ceased her callous attempts at escaping, calming down with the news of Rover's safety. "I can't thank you enough for that," she thanked, grabbing at his hand with a smile. She held his hand between hers, a source of warm heat in her own cold ones. "But, what do we do with this knowledge? What is the point of knowing we are the reincarnations of Katie and Shiro? We are Pidge Gunderson and Takashi Holt."

Takashi thought about his answer. "Well, I have many options. We could finish the story of Shiro and Katie or we could bring magic back to the world. Wouldn't that be great? To reintroduce magic back into a world that's long forgotten it?" he marveled, responding to her confusion with possibility. Katie stared at him with wonder.

"How do you do it?" she whispered inquisitively. The heat of her intense gave made Takashi waver a bit timidly.

Avoiding her eyes, he asked, "What? The magic part or the bit about finishing history?"

Tugging his palm closer to her bosom, an unconscious movement on Katie's part, Pidge observed Takashi with peering eyes. "How can you be so optimistic? Your life was ruined just because you are some ancient dude's reincarnation. Doesn't that make you mad? Don't you feel the ire swirling in her gut?" Pidge chided, not understanding how the elder could be so positive about the situation.

Takashi's face turned to meet her eyes, a nervous smile displayed on his features. "At first, yes. I was furious because I couldn't love Adam. I was upset because I was drawn to you instead of my boyfriend of two years. But, not anymore. Adam despises magic and anything that isn't his normal. I didn't quite fit in his box of perfection anyway. Then, there's you. Miss Gunderson, top of her grade and bestowed with the most wondrous mind. I would have never given you a second glance if it wasn't for this Katie-Shiro business and... I'm glad I could meet you, even like this," he countered, maintaining eye-contact and squeezing her hand.

Pidge was shocked, to say the least. No one had ever said something like that to her. It made her feel special—like she was someone of worth. Words failed her. She couldn't retort something so pure and honest.

Following a swift knock, a nurse entered the open doorway. She was a latina with her dark hair brushed back into a braid. "Hello, I'm nurse Lisa and I'm your nurse for this visit. May I check your vitals? They should be good as they were the past two days, but we have to be thorough," the nurse explained, smiling softly. Her eyes fell onto Pidge's and Takashi's intertwined hands. "May your boyfriend take a seat in one of the chairs so we can conduct the examination?"

At her words, Takashi bolted up, an awkward laugh falling out of his mouth as he detached Pidge's hands from his. "We aren't—," he began but the nurse shook her head.

The woman took stance on the other side of Pidge with a knowing look. "Lane told me everything. Claire bet me ten bucks that Lane was Miss Gunderson's boyfriend, but I told her no. Of course, she said it was because Lane is my younger brother that I refused to see what's in front of me, but I know a worried boyfriend when I see one and my, Mr Holt here is quite that," Lisa retorted, fondness laced into her voice. Then the nurse caught sight of all of the machinery that Pidge discarded in her frantic attempt of leaving the hospital. The nurse shook her head displeasingly.

Lisa leaned over and picked on up—the little clip that snaps down onto Pidge's finger, and cautioned, "Look, the machines are hooked up to you for a reason. I ask you to corporate with me as I place them back on so I can check your vitals." The small brunette nodded, lending Nurse Lisa her assistance in reattaching the machines. After ten minutes, the nurse nodded with an affirmed smile. "Looks like you can be discharged whenever Dr. Scav sees fit," Lisa continued on, "I'll go fetch him now."

Once she was gone, it was a deafening silence that overtook the space. Neither teen dared to speak to one another.

Dr. Scav did show and agreed with Lisa that Pidge was in the perfect condition and that she could return home. It was the home part that the girl was not ready to face. She knee that they all saw it—her hair's new length. How does one explain such an exponential growth to one's follicles in a mere few days?

The hospital called the Gunderson family, telling them Pidge was awake and ready to be released. There was a small altercation since her parents were not home and her mom insisted that Takashi could take her home. Once that situation was handled and an agreement was made, the phone was passed to Pidge.

"You are to go straight home with that Holt boy. No diddling, okay? You are to go home and make dinner. Once dinner is done, give your grandpa his treatment. Your dad is in our room in bed so don't forget to feed him. Tomorrow Chip has a party at school so help her make cookies. Got that? Okay, love you. Bye," her mother demanded, not exactly coldly but not cheerfully either. Pidge couldn't say anything to her, so she just hummed willingly in response. Then her mother simply hung up without any other thought.

Pidge understood. Her father was recovering from his devastating sickness while her mother took long shifts to cover for the six of them. Furthermore, as the religious parents they were, men were not to oversee house chores. That left Pidge to handle it all.

"Let's get to it," Pidge weakly told Takashi after getting changed into some clothes Mathew left for her during his last visit with Chip.

----
As a reflection of my own childhood, Katie's life is handicapped. I want her to have an exit I never did, even long after my dad recovered. So, from this chapter on, I diverge her life from mine. Oh, and its unedited.
