Waking up for school was always a fight for Pidge. She had to mentally brawl with herself to get out of bed. The best effort she could out forth usually was to grab her phone and watch YouTube until she was motivated enough to stand. Her bed was her safe haven and her pillow was her lover as she liked to joke.

That morning was different. When she woke up in the midst of wires and tools, Rover, licking her ankles, Pidge felt energized and ready for the day. Looking at her hands, she took note that they failed to spark. Ever since she arrived home, the greens orbs hadn't shown up.

Rover pawed at her feet and pulled on her trouser's bottom, whining. "Okay, Ro'. Give me a moment," she muttered, yawning and stretching before she removed herself from where she sat. Opening her room door, Pidge caught a glimpse of her face in the mirror across from her door. It was like she was staring at someone she didn't know.

Her hair. Her hair had grown about ten inches over night. With panic and shock overriding her system, Pidge rushed into the shared bathroom to locate her scissors. Grabbing a chunk of her hair, she snipped it away. In a moment of relief at her hair's usual style, the teen girl sighed. Then the locks exploded forward once more in a light green poof. The hair had, once more, grew past her shoulders down to her hip.

A knock came through the bathroom door. "Pidge? Hurry the heck up. I have to pee," her younger sister shouted in her groggy, irritated morning voice.

Panicking, Pidge grabbed a towel off the floor and wrapped it around her head in desperation to hide the strangeness of her follicles. Chip didn't even bother looking up from her phone when she pushed her way into the bathroom.

Once Pidge was back in the safety of her room, she let the anxiety flow out of her. "Okay. I have magic growing hair. Who am I? Rapunzel? The next thing I know is that it's going to start shining when I sing!" the brunette spat at the air, biting on her nail in thought. That's when she spotted her old Yuuri! On Ice beanie, abandoned on her bed's mantle. Fixing her new lengthy hair into a messy bun, she shoved it the best she could into the beanie. Looking herself over in her phone's camera, she decided it was good enough before she slipped into slacks and a NASA hoodie. So much for warm weather, she thought to herself as she shivered.

Her trailer's cooling system had broken months ago, so her room stayed five degrees higher then outside. That morning, it was belittling cold. "Can you take the bus? Your brother is sick today," Catherine Gunderson announced, showing herself in her daughter's doorway. A complaint was on the tip of her tongue when her mother walked away in a flash, not staying for a response.

Pidge hated the bus.

Seeing the motorized form of transpiration known as the hell machine made her spirits drop. "You can sit with me. I hate it too. Can't wait til you can drive me to school," Chip said, hinting at the fact that Pidge would get her license soon. The older sister took the younger up on her offer and sat with her on the transpiration bus.

The bus was a long trip of noisy kids and silent adults. Eyes from a kid across from her lingered on her form. The child not knowing that her stares were rude. Thankfully, the bus stopped near the middle school campus, letting both the kid and her sister off. That just left the teenagers and adults.

By time Pidge left the terrors of the bus behind, she had be touched, bumped, stared at, and eyed by all kinds of people. Thank the stars the nightmare was over and she faced the day at school.

The gloves from yesterday rested on her hands, this time for warmth. She felt a hand lightly hit her back. Hank's friendly face came into view. Shay, who has had a crush on Hank since his first year at their school, stood beside him with a warm smile. "How are ya', mate?" Hank questioned, his Australian accent stronger then before.

"Hello, Hank. Back from your trip to Australia?" Pidge inquired, holding a pleasant smile in place. Hank nodded and Pidge took in his outfit. The boy wore thick pants, and snow jacket, and thick fur gloves. "I see you need time to adjust to the cold weather of Virginia."

Hank silently nodded, eyeing the sky with distaste. "Already miss warm 'Stralia," he admitted. Shay patted his arm lightly in reassurance. "Well, we gotta head on to the class, yeah?" With that, the pair headed off.

Pidge watched their backs retreat into the high school. At the front doors, Pidge acknowledged Takashi stood at the front with Adam, whom looked upset. Getting closer, she heard the final line Adam said to his boyfriend, "I told you not to reveal it and you betrayed me. You're in the spotlight and I am not going to stand there while you burn in your own makings." With those final words, Adam stormed off inside, leaving Takashi by himself at the entrance.

The boy's face held nothing that Pidge could read. Then he spotted her and a smile enveloped on his mouth. "Ah, Pidge!" the upperclassman called, waving his hands aggressively like an over-happy child. He waited until she was closer before saying, "How's those sparks?"

Knowing what he spoke of, Pidge looked around to see if anyone was in hearing distance. Waiting for a group of girls to enter the building, Pidge admitted that the sparks had heeded since yesterday, not making an appearance since. "I don't know what's happening to me, nor do I desire to delve into the properties of this nightmarish occurrence, Takashi Holt. I hope we can put yesterday behind us and just forget about green sparks, Katie Holt, and magic."

Takashi frowned, a look of seriousness evading his facial features. "Pidge Gunderson, it is not that simple. Look, I know because I come from a long legacy of wizards. There is a reason I bear the same last name as Katie Holt. Far down in my ancestor pool is Allura and Matt Holt, Katie's brother and sister-in-law. Katie is my great-great-great-great-great-great aunt," the boy explained.

Oh, look an update :3
