The Spy

Chapter 19

Jacob's POV

     Tik tok. Tik tok. The noise of the clock is all you could hear. Each of us were impatient and wanted to see Alex. Haven has been on his phone the whole time, sometimes he would send me random reassuring messaged even though they did not make me feel better and just made me more aggravated.

     "I can't take this anymore. I need to see if she is okay." Benny grumbled holding his head. I rolled my eyes. This kid thinks he is the only one who wants to see her. 

    "Your not the only one." Haven stated rolling his eyes. Benny's teared face looked over in our direction and glared. 

     "She has been my best friend since we were four. Don't even think for a second I don't want to see her less than you." Benny snapped back. This should be interesting. 

     "Really, that's a while, but as I recall she has been hanging out with me more than you recently." Haven threw back. Benny's glare intensified.  

      "You don't know her like we do. I bet she didn't even tell you the real reason why she was gone all those months. Or the reason for her panic attacks. Or her nightly nightmares. I bet you know not a single piece of the reason." Benny threw back. Wait a second. She has nightmares. Instead of enjoying the fight I am more interested on what he has to say. 

     "You don't know the pain she has been through all of these gosh dang years. You weren't the one who had to watch her almost take her last breath. You weren't there all of those times she cried rivers. You weren't there. You don't know anything about her. She has only told you what she wants you to know." Benny finished off crossing his arms. Alex tried killing herself. Haven just rolled his and huffed. 

     "Benny I think you went to far." Cami said. Benny just shook his head.

     "I said what needed to be said. I'm going to go get fresh air. If she gets here before I get back call me." Benny said before storming out of the room. Kenna sighed along with Cami and looked at me. 

     "I am so sorry about him. He has always been protective like that of her. I guess that's what happens when you grow up with someone. They become like family so you have a need to protect them." Kenna said, im guessing towards Haven. Haven just nodded. 

     (The thought of Kenna)

    Jacob the gang leader and Haven are sitting right here in front of us. I am guessing during school they got close to Alex because I know she would never blow her cover. It is so unlike her. They just sit there and act all innocent. I wish I could question them both for Alex's state. Knowing her she should flip out though so I wont do that. 

     What scares me is that the rumors are that Jacob doesn't talk to people so why is he so suddenly into Alex. I knew it was his sweatshirt that she was wearing a few days ago. 

     Jacob's POV

     "What happened to make her have all of those things?" Haven asked almost like reading my mind. Kenna looked over to Cami but she shook her head and Kenna nodded. 

     "She will tell you when she is ready." Kenna said. It must be about her parents. The night she was over and in the corner she kept talking about her parents. She said that they were in a hit and run but I want to know more about the story. It will help me find the person who did this also. 

     "How much longer!" Cami complained. Normally I would get annoyed at someone who complained as much as her but at the moment I agree. It has felt like hours that we have been in here. All we have done is stare at the clock hoping it will magically move faster and Alex will be here. 

    A nurse soon walked into the room with a smile on her face. She began plugging things into the wall and setting different packets of liquids out. Wait does this mean Alex will be back here soon. The nurse fluffed the pillow and laid a new set of blankets onto the bed. She smiled at all of us. 

     "Alex will be here soon. She just got done with surgery so she should be arriving in about ten minutes. They want to make sure everything is sews perfectly." The nurse said giving us one last smile before leaving the room. 

    "Did the nurse tell you guys what she was getting surgery for?" Kenna asked. Haven and I shook our head. Kenna sighed putting her head into her hands. 

     "All of this is stressing me out. From her passing out in school to this accident. I didn't even know where she was and I still don't know." Kenna said rubbing the bridge of her nose. 

     "She was with us." Haven said. Kenna's head snapped up to us. She examined us before nodding. She looked over at Cami and Cami nodded. What is up with all the gosh dang nodding. There is too much of it. 

     "Did she seem, I don't know how to put it, like off. She would randomly wake up in the night crying, or maybe walking somewhere and crying?" Kenna asked. Memories from the night I was in the office and she had her first panic attack with me. The thought brings me chills. 

     "Yeah. She had a panic attack." Haven stated. Kenna shook her head and pulled her hair. She looks oddly stressed about this. I mean they are just panic attacks right. 

     "Gosh dang it Alex. She told me these stopped years ago." Kenna said huffing. Cami rolled her eyes. 

     "Maybe they were gone. Then they came back." Cami said. Kenna looked over at her. 

    "You may be right. The ten years and all. It has been a long time." Kenna said, I am thinking they forgot we were here because when they looked back at us they looked embarrassed. I am more confused than judgmental. What the heck was gone and then came back. 

     "You can't bring a word about this conversation to Alex do you hear me. If I find out you told her I will find you and hurt you." Kenna said glaring. Both of us nodded. 

     After a few more minutes the door slid open. A few doctors came in pulling a stretcher. On the stretcher laid a peaceful looking Alex. The doctors lifted her up onto the hospital bed making sure to keep the blankets on her.

    As they laid her down they hooked her up to IV's and a bunch of other medicines. She was still out cold while they did all this. Once they were finished all of the doctors left besides one. 

     "Hello I am Dr. Bennett. I would like to warn you after the surgery we had to do miss Alex will struggle a lot more in life. She won't be living easily anymore." The doctor said motioning for all of us to gather around Alex. As soon as everyone stood up Benny came back in. He looked more calm than before. He joined us as we circles around Alex's bed. 

     "Let me warn you this may be very disturbing and weird to look at." The doctor said. We all nodded. With one last sigh the doctor threw the blankets off Alex. 

      Gasps were the only thing you could hear in the room.
