Nick pulled the truck up, pausing to take in the sight of his home being consumed by flames.

'Jesus...' He breathed quietly, voice hitching a little.

'Nick! Nick!' Kim emerged from their bunker like a gopher peering out of a hole. She cradled their newborn daughter in her arms. I saw her expression falter as she saw Jacob clamber out of the front seat. It changed to concern though as I emerged, wearily leaning against the tall mountain man as he walked me towards where she was looking out. 'Hurry, get in.' She beckoned more so to me than to Jacob. Kim handed the baby over to Nick before taking my hand softly. She eased me down the steps with Jacob steadying me from behind. Nick held his daughter in one arm and secured the bunker doors tightly. Blood trickled down my temple as we stepped out into the bunker. Nick had converted his basement into a rather large but homey space. They guided me to the nearest couch and I sprawled across it, completely rattled by what I'd seen and done.

'We'll uh, leave you two to talk.' Nick pressed a palm to Kim's back who stared at him in exasperation. She wanted an explanation as to why one of the Seeds was inside her family bunker. Hurrying his wife away, I caught him giving me a worried look over his shoulder. Jacob plonked down beside me and rubbed his hands over his face.

'He was fuckin' right after all.' He paused, jogging his leg nervously. 'Bastard.' I didn't know what to say, I simply resigned myself to staring at the wall. I felt hollow and empty. 'So are you late?'

'Huh?' Dazed, I turned to regard him with glassy eyes.

'Are you late for your... y'know.' He tilted his head towards my crotch.

'I'm on the pill so I haven't had it for a while.'

'Oh.' He grew quiet. 'Do you think you are?'

'I don't know Jacob.' Letting out an aggravated sigh, I knotted my fingers into my hair and tugged hard at my scalp. 'I didn't believe a word Joseph said but the world's just imploded before my fucking eyes so...' I trailed off, a horrible tense feeling knotting in my stomach. The drop of blood that was trickling down the side of my head rounded on my jaw and dripped from my chin.

'You're hurt.' He stated, sticking a finger out and scraping it from my skin.

'I don't really care about that.' I mumbled quietly, pressing the balls of my palms into my eyes. 'I fucking killed them.' Hudson, Whitehorse and Pratt's faces shot through my mind.

'You were compromised.' Jacob shrugged as if it was nothing. There was another very long break of silence until Nick approached us warily.

'Uhm so I guess we're kinda stuck down here together for now. Kim and always prepared for the outcome that uh 'friends' may be using the bunker with us so I'll show ya to your room.' Uneasy on my feet, I followed the pilot closely as he took us down a corridor and through into a simple room. 'There's a bed, some rations and stuff. Hell knows how long we'll be down here haha.' His awkward laugh fell heavily and quickly died. 'Uh anyway Dep, can I talk to ya for a sec?' Nick gestured his head back the way we came and I knew I was gonna have to wait a little longer before I could rest. Jacob took his leave, stalking into the room and hunkering down on the bed. Trailing after the pilot, I slumped back onto the sofa and buried my face in my hands.

'You're fucking crazy Dep.' Kim cradled Carmina close as she stood, lightly jogging the little bundle up and down.

'Please tell me that you ain't actually carrying a Seed baby in there?' Nick removed his aviators and propped them on the beak of his cap.

'I don't think I am. I haven't had any sickness or aches and pains.' Even though I tried to disguise it with confidence, they knew deep down that I really did not know.

'And if you are? Then what?' Kim grilled me.

'Guess I'm having a fucking kid.'

'Does he want that?' She titled her head down the corridor towards the now closed bedroom door.

'Nope.'

'Do you want a kid?' Nick asked quietly, coming to sit beside me and placing a supportive hand on my knee.

'Not really.' I replied honestly, tears of uncertainty pricking beneath my lashes. The Rye's exchanged a glance, unsure of what to do.

'We could try to... get rid of it?' Nick struggled over the words and Kim shot him an angry look.

'No it's fine.' I sniffed, wiping under my nose with my sleeve. 'If I am pregnant it was my own mistake, can't take that out on the poor kid.'

'Well we won't be sure for another few weeks until you start showing more signs. Joseph may well have just made it up to try and unnerve Jacob so that he'd kill you.' Kim said, gazing down at her daughter that was swaddled in her arms.

'Whatever happens Rook, we'll be here okay?' Nick softly squeezed at my knee and I gave him a teary but grateful smile. I wholeheartedly hoped and wished that I wasn't pregnant because I knew how much the idea petrified Jacob. It was just a waiting game now.
