"I. Am. Fine!" , you told him. God, couldn't he just let go of you, get up and leave? Was that too much to ask for?

"You. Are. Not. Fine!" , Strange replied, copying you. You glared at him. He didn't have the right. And he didn't know if you were fine or not. He wasn't you after all.

"I am perfectly fine. My heart is beating again, I am breathing again, I am even concious! What more could I wish for?" , you asked him. Sarcasm, your best friend.

Another failed attempt to make him take his arms away was made. You were consistenly growing more frustrated.

"If I let go of you, would you allow the paramedics to check on you?" , he asked. It was pronounced in the way one only asks if they already know the answer. You had never understood why they still felt the urge to ask it anway. Probably because humans felt that their superiority had to be put on display.

"No, but you already knew that" , you snapped. This could have been such a relaxed, nice day if it hadn't been for these two dicks showing up. You really weren't keen on ending up in a hospital today. Or ever.

"I can't let you get up without feeling guilty. You were in a serious condition and you could go back to it any minute! The symptom may have disappeared but the disease could still be present! The symptoms could reoccur every moment" , stated Strange. God, he was so naive. And, despite being said to be bright, he appeared rather dim. On the other hand, he was talking doctor language here. One struggles to leave the past behind, even Strange.

"As I already stated: It was you who made this happen. You forced a memory back to the surface. I relived it, it drowned me. It's that easy. And now take your hands away or I'll take your life away. You've got a choice right there" , you snapped. He took his hands away. Thank god. Threatening to kill people still worked impressivly well.

You got up, rising in front of him without any effort. Not shaking the tiniest bit. Strange seemed impressed and surprised. And curious.

"What do you mean, the memory drowned you? Do your basic body functions always fail when you remember something?" , he inquired. The question felt strange. There was an edge to it. He wanted to know the answer but he also wanted something else. There was more to your answer for him than he was willing to let go. And more to the question too.

"Are you trying to keep me occupied as to prevent me from leaving?" , you inquired. Scepticism was an important part of your life. It had always been. Caution was rule number one. A tiniest twist of Strange's eyes told you that you had been correct. He still wanted you to stay.

"No, of course not! Please answer the question" , protested Strange. He had to think you to be rather dumb. Well, time to play.

"Only if you answer me a question" , you bargained. He tilted his head a little. He hesitated. Your request scared him and that surprised you. He hadn't seemed too scared of you before. All self-absorbed and a little too proud of himself. Not scared easily.

"Alright" , Strange said after a while. He wasn't happy with giving in. That was obvious. He knew that he didn't have a choice though if he wanted to get what he aimed for. Which was getting you medically examined for some odd reason.

"Okay, have your answer first because it is highly unspectacular. I don't know. Normally there's no one around to check if I am still breathing or shit. Normally nobody cares. Which I am totally fine with, by the way" , you answered. He didn't like it. Your answer. His face was all wrinkly now.

"What do you mean? Isn't there anyone with you? Ever?" , he asked. Why did he sound worried now? There was no reason to be worried.

It probably was because he saw solitude as something bad. You didn't. You had been alone for so long now. Being alone kept you safe. It protected you from your memories, the pain and other human beings. There was a reason why special people tried to stay out of public. Humans were selfish little things. They would find a way to use special people's talents for their own good. They would exploit them. They would turn them into scientific objects. Because, as soon as anything or anyone isn't normal humans tend to forget about the fact that the object of interest is still alive. That it still has feelings, emotions, everything.
