Queen Merida

Chapter Six

The trumpet sounded once again and Merida bit her lip, she was late for her own coronation. Her mother had reluctantly allowed her get herself ready and now she was late, she could imagine her mom frowning and constantly telling herself that she should her gotten her ready instead.

Merida hastily searched the room for needle and thread, her coronation gown had torn and she couldn't wear anything else because her mother had chosen and somewhat blessed this gown solely for this day. She looked into a box and gasped with joy, needle and thread.

She sat down after removing her gown and began to work all the while cursing herself, the gown and that blasted trumpet.

Elinor sighed, she looked at Fergus knowingly and he sighed.

" Aye, i'll stall them" he said and she smiled then stood up and made for Merida's room hurriedly. Elinor couldn't send Maudi because she was busy in the kitchen and she couldn't send any of Merida's brothers...for obvious reasons.  She swung open Merida's door and saw the princess with a scrunched face that was focused on her sewing and she didn't even notice her mom come in. She was wearing only her white underwear and the golden necklace she had showed her.

"Merida" she called sharply and unfortunately for merida, she was too startled and shrieked then fell over and hit her head. Elinor rolled her eyes and approached her, she frowned at Merida and Merida gave her a nervous smile.

"Hello mom"
"Merida I told you.. "
"Ah know mom it's just...ah'm turning twenty one and today is mi coronation, ah just wanted ta be...grown up"

Elinor sighed and helped her daughter up, she looked at the half sown dress and gasped.

"What...happened?"
"It tore... Sorry"

Elinor looked around a bit confused at first, Merida was totally puzzled by this act, then Elinor shot towards her wardrobe, desperately searching for a befitting gown then she settled on a blue gown, Merida groaned.

"No mom, ah hate that gown"
"This is not a matter of choice Merida now wear it and meet everyone downstairs. Fast" she said and handed Merida the dress then went out, Merida sighed and did what she was told.

Merida was in her blue gown looking beautiful, smug and totally nervous. Elinor was beaming with joy, Fergus was just glad to get this thing started but he was also happy while her Wee devil brothers...well they behaved surprisingly but they still had some mischievous ideas building in their heads.

"Will the princess come forward please?" the man who was to crown her said, Merida gulped and stood up then slowly walked towards him and stood near him.

"We gather here today according to the ever long tradition of the Scotts, to crown the princess who is now of age to be the queen. Princess?" he beckoned for her to kneel and she did, he took the queen's crown all the while bowing down, she gladly allowed him take it, she was just proud of her daughter. He put the crown on her head then everyone applauded, she stood up smiling at everyone then she glanced at Rapunzel in the corner with Jack and Maudi.

Rapunzel locked eyes with her and immediately understood, she smiled at her friend and gave her two thumbs up. Merida knew she would be taking a big risk but it should be worth it...right?
