Queen Merida

Chapter Fourteen

Merida stared at the beast in front of her, three weeks of dragon teachings and weaponry but none of that prepared her for actually riding a dragon. Ruffnut touched her shoulder.
"Go on, she won't bite"
"But it's Astrid's dragon, the lass probably told the dragon ta eat mi when ah climb on it" merida said and folded her arms.

"Astrid probably doesn't trust you yet but Storm fly might, don't you girl" Ruffnut pat the dragon and it purred at her touch. Merida gulped, she wondered why she couldn't just fly toothless but hiccup said that she needed to understand different dragons.
"If ah die hiccup, its yer fault" she whispered to herself and sighed then mounted Storm fly, then reluctantly patted her head.
"Okay now" she said and giddied her and off they went, Merida tried to hold on as much as she could but Storm fly was hard to ride. Merida gripped something on her then Storm fly roared in pain and went unconscious, now merida was panicking because they had reached about thirty feet into the air and they pummeling down fast. Merida's whole life flashed before her eyes and she thought it was the end until she was caught, she opened her eyes.

"Hiccup?!" She said with relief and surprise.
"Merida what is wrong with you, have you learnt nothing?!" He scolded
"What did ah do?!"
"Nothing! That's the problem!... Toothless go"

Toothless flew quick towards the falling dragon and put her on his back, merida was amazed because storm fly was bigger than toothless.
"How..." She stuttered
"Night furies are known to carry things ten times their weight and storm fly here is just six times his weight"

"That's amazing"
"Don't think you're off the hook young woman"
"Yer not mah dad Hiccup" merida said looking away and crossing her hands.
"No but I am your teacher and don't forget our deal"

Merida fell silent, hiccup sighed and whispered to toothless to land soon, they were on the ground. Astrid saw her dragon and ran to them in panic.

"Storm fly!" She embraced her dragon as hiccup and merida got off toothless.
"She'll be fine just take her in for checking okay?"

Astrid looked at merida and approached her angrily, merida glared back.
"This was all your fault! What did you do to her?!"
"Ah didn't do anything and besides ah didn't ask ta ride yer dragon okay so don't shout at me"
"You think you're so smart merida! But you're not okay and don't forget the real reason your here! Its because we defeated and captured you so if you don't abide by our!...."

"Enough!" Hiccup shouted, merida and Astrid looked at him, she approached him
"Hiccup... You're defending her? Why?" She whispered to him.
"I'm not defending anyone but you should know your limits Astrid, merida is new at this and you have no right to scold her, do I make myself clear?"

Astrid looked away, he frowned "I said do I make myself clear?"
"Yes...chief" she said and took storm fly with her. Merida felt bad, hiccup took her by the wrist and dragged her away gently.

Hiccup was sharpening his spear when merida appeared behind him with her bow.
"Hey" she said in a loud whisper
"Oh hey, what are you doing out?"
"Just practising....look, ah'm sorry about taday, ye know...about Storm fly and..."
"It's okay, but you know....if you were confused or scared..." He started while standing up "you should just tell me or ask questions" he started walking and she followed suit by his side.

"Now that ye mention it....ah do have some questions...um...can ye tell me about the dragons... Ye know, their strengths, weaknesses" she said and smirked inconspicuously.
"Well, dragons have a lot of strengths but very few weaknesses"
"Can ye mention a few?"
"Well, a dragons strength differs according to their species...a dragon like toothless, his strength is many but  one of his weaknesses is...." He stopped, merida frowned a bit.

"Well? Why'd ye stop?" She complained sounding very disappointed.
"Sorry but I can't seem to recall, maybe in tomorrow's lesson okay?"
She huffed "Fine...thanks anyway, goodnight" she said plainly and walked away, hiccup was very confused.

Dear rapunzel, it's me merida again. I would say I bring good news this time but I would be lying if I did. Anyways, I was so close to knowing the dragon's weaknesses as I planned I would know but even the dragon rider doesn't know his own dragon's weakness.....it could mean that we're up against something very strong.

Till I'm sure, take care of mom and dad for me and my brothers as well. I really miss you all and this mission of mine is staring to get me home sick but just have faith in me that I would come out successful sooner or later, it's only a matter of time. Meanwhile, if dad is having any plans of attacking, don't forget to tell him that my life is at stake if he does so....it's the only way to make sure I have enough time for my mission. Thanks for everything.

Merida sighed and sealed it, she was about to go out to send it but her door opened to reveal Astrid, she quickly put the letter behind her and Astrid became suspicious.

"What is that?"
"What is what?"
"What you're hiding behind you?"
"What's hiding?"
"What?"
"What?"

Astrid sighed "look, I came here to apologize"
"Well that's the first"
"Listen....I'm sorry about what I said and I know you're new to all of this and you didn't mean to hurt storm fly"
"How's she holding up?"
"She's fine now, she doesn't like it when something grip her sides hard....she's sensitive there...you could even say its one of her weaknesses"

Merida smiled. "Its okay, ah'm sorry too"
Astrid smiled and left, merida sighed but felt happy a bit, at least one down.
