Zelsa
"Zelsa, promise me something." His voice came out strained as if his throat was parched.
"Anything, Eth," I replied with conviction.
"No matter what happens, if you find it. Burn it. Destroy it. But don't let him get it." He sounded dead-serious, his eyes silently pleading me to agree.
"I- what are you talking about?" I enquired.
"Just promise me!" He insisted.
"I will but what is "it" that you're talking about?" I frowned not knowing what to say.
"Goddammit, just promise me! Swear on me that you will do as I said. I need to hear you say it." Ethan fumed. To be honest, I have never seen Ethan get worked up in my entire life. He has never really raised his voice at me no matter what I did.
"Okay. I promise. I swear on you that I will do as you said. I promise to destroy it." I retorted honestly.
His eyes searched mine for traces of honesty. Seconds later, he nodded timidly before turning on his heel and walking back to his room; shutting the door with a loud bang.
I gasped.
Ethan.
My eyes scanned around the room trying to find him. Getting on my feet I walked towards his room, hoping to find him sitting on the edge of the bed with his head held between his hands.
With shaky hands, I turned the knob and pushed the door lightly.Silence.
That was what I was greeted with.
And of course, the room was a mess.
Sighing, I pushed the door further and took the liberty to walk inside. Glancing over the small room which used to be his, I hoped to find something that would assure me that he is still around me.
I stood there contemplating for what seemed like hours but were merely a few minutes. Gulping the lump that began to form in my throat, I picked up pieces of half-burnt cigarettes and other trash, shoving them into the bin next to Ethan's work table. The next thing was the bedsheets. Discarding the old ones, I quickly changed into new ones and collected all the clothes that were scattered on the floor. I then decided to finish the laundry as I had nothing else to do.
It took me an hour and a half to finish up cleaning both rooms, mine and Ethan's. By that time I felt completely drained. Realizing I haven't eaten much and it was almost midnight, I quickly made a sandwich to feed my hungry stomach.
Taking my phone to check the time, I realized it was actually half past midnight.
Where is he?
My mind wandered towards the 'what if' questions.
What if he's out there smoking and drinking?
Or
What if he got caught by those guys who wanted to hurt him? Is he okay? God, I hope he is.
