Meeting the friends and Adapting

Yusei's pov

I groan as I get up the next morning, but I got all the sleep I can and I know it. I try not to disturb both Yugi and Yami, slithering and squirming gently to escape their grasps. I smile once I'm out, and head to the window, quickly and quietly sneaking out and on the roof, to watch the sunrise.

The roof, being slanted as it is, might look uncomfortable to others, but being raised in the future, where most of the buildings are destroyed or falling apart, you get used to sleeping, sitting or leaning against things not entirely comfortable. But, this gives the best view and a little discomfort is fine for the view. It'll be another 15 or so minutes before the sun even begins to peak over the horizon, but seeing the sky lighten and the stars fade is something I never tire of, especially as I hear my companions stir and panic.

I grin, but continue to enjoy the lovely sky, watching the sun come up, turning away before it gets too bright, and slipping down the side of the house still in the dark, sliding smoothly into the room via window. Yami nods and gives me a grin, while Yugi stops panicking and turns a fake stern look on me.

"Hero of your time or not, sitting on the roof of the house is not a common thing for this time, so you need to be careful. -"

"I'm so sorry, I didn't think of your reputation, what would other people think, I didn't-"

"Yusei. We don't care what other people think, considering most people think Grandpa and I are crazy anyway, me for talking to myself, and Grandpa for taking in his grandson at his age. We don't care if people think we're crazy, but if you fall off the house, you'll get hurt badly. I don't know what kind of medical facilities or even attention you got, but here the hospitals can't do much for broken bones except splint them."

"...I honestly think you guys have better facilities than my time. We don't have hospitals, in fact, more often than not, you're lucky to get treated by someone else, since it's so expensive to get most medical stuff and even more money to actually get the education for it. Most people fixed themselves and learned from that."

"...Well... Anyways, let's go get breakfast, the others are coming over today and we want you to meet them. Yami will mostly be in the puzzle, but you can still talk to him, what with being able to see his spirit form, but be careful. It's not normal to be able to see him in spirit form."

I nod and we all head for the stairs, knowing Grandpa has managed to make something delicious by scent alone. I have yet to get any clothes from this time, so I have to be especially careful with the people here. I pause on the stairs when I remember I need clothes from this time.

"Guys. I can't go out anywhere unless you get me some clothes. Mine kinda stand out a teeny, tiny, insy, bit. So, if you want me to meet your friends, you might want to buy me clothes before they get here."

The other two pause, before sharing a glance and nodding. I feel one - probably Yami, being alone in a puzzle for years, does things to your concept of personal space - pull my shirt back to get a size, before stepping back. We settle at the table greeting Grandpa as he carries a few plates out from the kitchen. He sets them down and carefully backs away, eyeing it for a moment, before nodding and heading back into the kitchen.

Yugi and Yami dig in, so I shrug and go along, eating much more delicately compared to the two beasts next to me. I grin, amused, as Grandpa comes out and stares at them for a moment, before giving me a resigned amused look. He sets down a glass of orange juice in front of all of us, before settling in to eat. I hesitate and try to eat a little more, even though I feel full and don't want to eat anymore. I know I need to get up a bigger appetite.
