Yusei pov

"...Hi."

Seto Kaiba continues to stare at me, something in his eyes telling me that he was going to find out everything he can about me. I grin, while I mentally try to figure out who he reminds me of.

"Kaiba, what are you doing here?"

"I came intending to ask you a question, but the only one here was him, and he was obviously in the "Duelist Trance" (the name for the thing Yusei did last chapter, where he pulled the other people, duelist or not, into his body and bared his soul) and decided to wait since 1) I don't recognize him, 2) even I won't send someone to their death on purpose and 3) I want to duel him to see what I can learn about him. He seems like he'd be a good opponent."

"You'll have to wait. I have just gotten here and I don't know anything about the dueling style here well enough to play it. Give me some time to learn first. Is that ok with you?"

The silence behind me tells me this is a first. Kaiba's silence tells me he's not only shocked, but he is thinking about it, if simply because I fascinate him and he wants to duel me and have it be exciting.  I know who he reminds me of, and that means this is Jack's ancestor.

Or at the very least, someone who is in some way related. This is the same kind of attitude and personality that Jack had, though it's much more present and being used as a shield. I don't know what he's hiding from or why, but I understand and decide I'll continue to knock until his shield drops and he invites me in. It's exactly what I did with Jack, though I knew him earlier in my life.

"...That's fine. I don't want you ruining my rep. because I beat and destroyed a newbie. I'll give you a few months, maybe a year. I do want your story in exchange for all the time I'm giving you to learn."

I smirk and hold out a hand, willing and perfectly content to accept that deal. He nods and takes my hand, accepting the shake. The second he let's go, he turns on his heel and strides out of the door, his " I'll ask you my question later " flying back in through the door before it slams closed. I turn to the others and they're all staring at me, except for Grandpa, who's got a knowing gleam in his eye.

"I see you've dealt with your "Kaiba" a bit differently then Yugi. May I ask how?"

"Well, honestly he and I were friends before he became like Kaiba. Of course, he's still a giant prick, and all that, especially since he's got that accent of his, that he uses as proof to being superior, but I am also aware that his personality and attitude are simply a shield, that he's hiding behind. Kaiba is exactly the same. I'll wait it out, and use this year to knock on his shield until he lets me in."

"How do you know he's going to give you the year and not a month, or a week?"

"Because he wants a challenge and he won't get that with only a month. Plus, he wants my story and I'll give him bits and pieces to keep him interested and curious enough to keep demanding I come back."

Everyone is silent, from either shock or worry, until Grandpa bursts into laughter. The other 4 turn to him in worry, while I share a knowing smirk with Yami before grinning at Grandpa. He waves at hand at me while he laughs and the others turn to me.

I shrug and smile, knowing exactly why he's keeled over laughing, but wanting the others to figure it out by themselves. It'll do them some good to have to figure it out. Yami sends me a vicious grin, since he already knows exactly what just happened and why Grandpa's laughing. Perks of being a Hero.

"Ohh... Hahehehe... It's been some while since I've seen anyone not only throw Kaiba off so much, but also since I've seen anyone actually describe him that way. I almost feel sorry for him, but can't quite muster up the feeling when I remember how long the shield and barrier have been up, along with how much trouble they've caused. This will be a very long year for Kaiba, a very long year indeed."
