Kol's POV
"We're close..." Rebekah breathes as we come to a halt. "We need to slow down, they're around here somewhere and if they hear us coming, we'll be at a disadvantage."
"So what's our plan, exactly?" I ask, frustrated with the caution, wanting to get it over and done with, end this, and get back to Chelsea. "I thought we were coming to help."
"Yes, but we can't exactly go running straight in. If they hear us coming, they'll be ready for us. What's wrong with you, anyway? You look like you've been crying." She asks, eyeing the redness around my eyes.
"Nothing." I lie, keeping my eyes fixed ahead of us, avoiding eye contact.
"Why are you lying to me?" She asks. "It might've only been just recently that I've ever seen you upset, but now I know when you 'are."
"I just want this to be over and done with." I snap. "She's my best friend, Rebekah. You have no idea how much she means to me, none of you do, you wouldn't understand."
"We 'all' love her." She retorts, offended.
"I know, but--Not like I do."
Her brows furrow as her eyes search mine, as though my eyes are showing her something that she'd never realized. I gulp, unsure as to what my eyes are portraying. "I believe you..." She almost whispers, her brows furrowing even more than before.
My brows pinch, as I gulp again, unsure as to what she's seen in my eyes. "You know, even in all the panic, my heart warmed when I walked into the house and saw the two of you dancing together... You looked so sweet together--so peaceful, so--'right,' somehow. And I know Nik wouldn't appreciate me saying that--but it's true... You know, I'm proud of you Kol. I never really realized what you had with her, until just recently. You're a different man now, I've never been prouder."
...
"Kol, I--I've realized I owe you an apology."
"What for?" I ask, my brows furrowed harshly.
"For our argument. About Chelsea, when I accused you of trying to get between her and Nik, because you were being so nice to her and spending so much time with her. I realize I was wrong, now, and I should have listened to you. If it wasn't for me, Nik never would've made you leave. I was wrong to accuse you of wanting to get her into bed, I was wrong to believe that she couldn't mean anything to you. I'm sorry, Kol... You came back for her, didn't you..."
"She called me, said she missed me. Asked me to come back. I missed her, so I came home."
"You said home." Rebekah smiles contently.
I let out a small, breathy laugh. "Well, I think we all consider this place home now."
"We do." She sniggers gently. "I'm just not used to you classing anywhere we've lived as 'home."
"Chelsea's home. So, wherever she is, I'm home."
"Kol..." She whimpers through watery eyes with a wide, proud smile. "You know, I know I shouldn't say this, but for what it's worth--I think you'd of made a lovely couple by now, if it was you and her, not Nik. If they didn't have the bond that they have, or the connection, if Nik didn't feel anything for her and she didn't feel anything for him--Do you think it could've been 'you' and her?"
