Greyson POV

I smiled as we neared the city gates. It has been awhile since I've been home and the beauty of it never ceased to amaze me. Sentry's atop the stone wall spotted us and called for the gates to be opened. If they hadn't recognized me someone probably would have gotten punished. I am their leader, after all. I stood awkwardly some odd feet apart from Fae, as I kept my word that we wound not tell anyone about us. Not that my pack wouldn't figure it out because my scent was all over her. They would at least suspect something was going on between us.

I looked to my right to see Fae's reaction as she took in the city for the first time. Her eyes widened as we walked down the stone path towards the castle. The market was busier than ever. Were-people bustling around, haggling prices and cooking delicious smelling food. Ah I missed meat, I thought to myself. Houses lined up and down the streets, all built out of stone from our quarry. People began to notice and recognize me, lining up and down the street to greet their king. I smiled and nodded, recognizing almost all of them. As Fae and I neared the castle, Alekander rushed up to us and gave me a rough hug and handshake.

"I missed you, brother."

"As have I. It has been far too long since I have been home."

Alekander released my hand and stepped back to greet Faelyn.

"And who might this beautiful young Elf be?"

"U-um hello my name is Faelyn."

"Oh my. Well my name is Alekander and I am the Beta of the pack. Alpha Greyson you didn't tell me you would be bringing such a gorgeous guest home. I would have dressed more...appropriately." He gestured at his bare chest and shorts, clearly having just finished his daily training.

"She is here in an ambassador capacity. She will be our guest of honor, and I expect you to treat her with as much respect and you treat me."

He nodded, not retorting because of my serious tone.

"I will leave it to you, Alpha. And it was a pleasure to meet you, Faelyn." He winked at us then jogged away, probably to gossip to everyone about the gorgeous girl I had brought home.

I looked at Fae to try and gauge how she was but her face was expressionless. "Are you okay Fae?"

She nodded, scuffling her feet at the ground. "Yes I am just tired. I'd like to lie down and rest."

I reached out to hold her hand but I remembered my promise and quickly retracted my outstretched hand. "Well the castle is just at the top of this hill. Lets go."

Guards opened the doors and two maids greeted us. "Welcome home, King Alpha. It is a great pleasure to see you again." I nodded at them and they took our belongings.

"I would like Princess Faelyn here to sleep in the west wing. Please treat her as our guest of honor and attend to her every need, no matter what." The two maids glanced at each other but did not speak, only nodding in agreement. They knew I never allowed any guest in the west wing because it was where I and my parents used to live. A family wing, you might call it. But Fae is my family. Maybe I couldn't tell anyone yet, but I would not allow her to sleep so far away from me. I couldn't let her sleep in my room, as it would arouse suspicion.

"Fae, you go on ahead. I have some business I need to attend to." She nodded and I gave her a reassuring glance, telling her it would be okay. The maids led her away upstairs and I headed to my office.

I walked to down the carpeted hall way, creaking open the large wooden door. My desk was a complete mess, papers cluttered every available space. Alekander was always so messy and unorganized. He always made good decisions, people would probably be shocked if they knew what went on behind the scenes. I sat down and began to organize everything according to importance. Training evaluations were coming up, probably why Alek was working so late. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. So much work to do, but all I could think about was Fae.
