Blood red orbs stared back at me in the dim room.
"This is what I truly am. A monster. I cant even control myself around my mate. I could rip you to shreds right now and there isn't a damn thing you could do about it."
"T-that's just your wolf talking." I trembled behind Alek, eyes fixated on the shadowy figure moving towards us. Light filtered through the bars from the window onto Greyson. I gasped when he emerged from the darkness. It was like his body stopped halfway from his transition of human to wolf. His body was human shaped, but his legs were full wolf. Hair covered him and fangs jutted from his mouth.
"Why can't you understand that my wolf and I are one!? If he does something bad I am equally to blame as if I had done something terrible!" His chest heaved from his erratic breathing. My fist curled into a ball and I squeezed my fingertips into my palm until it bled. I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself.
"Just..please. Greyson you are out of your mind right now. Come back to us, the pack, our pack. I need you and I've missed you so much." My chest felt so tight, overwhelmed with emotion as I said those words. I meant them, every single one and I hoped he felt it. He turned away from us and roared into the cell, lashing at the wall and leaving huge claw marks into the stone. Without thinking, I stumbled into the open door and threw my arms around his thick waist.
Alek yelled at me, "Fae, no!"
His claws dug into the stone as my forehead rested against his back. He fell to his knees and I with him, a sob escaping his throat. I sat on my knees, holding him while his body convulsed, trying to change back into his human form. His bones cracked in my arms as I held him tight. Minutes passed by and finally there was silence.
Alek came over and placed a hand on my back. "Here, lets get him upstairs." I nodded and Alek thew Greyson over his shoulder, grunting from the weight. We trudged up the stairs to the second level and Alek placed him on the bed. "Will you be alright here, alone?"
I smiled. "Not alone." He nodded and left us. I laid on my side next to his warm body. We were face to face, his body limp and weak. I reached to lift a piece of hair out of his eyes but a hand flew up and grabbed my wrist. I gasped softly and he pulled me towards him. He embraced me but said nothing. It seemed he was still asleep so I snuggled into him and closed my eyes.
I woke up in my bed, disoriented. This wasn't where I fell asleep, I was in the tower! Was any of that even real? I looked for Greyson but he wasn't here. My brows furrowed and I slipped out of bed. The sky was almost dark and my stomach rumbled. Dinner time. I crept down the stairs and heard laughing. I followed the shouting to the dining hall and my mouth dropped open. There was Greyson and my mother cackling together at the head of the table. When did my mother get here!?
"Psst." I looked behind me and there stood Keya. "Yeah I don't think you mother disliking Greyson is going to be a problem.
I just stood there. "Umm."
"And I have no idea how much shes had to drink. I think they are both wasted. He brought you back earlier and your mother was already here. He didn't want to wake you up."
"Uh huh."
"Are you going to say anything?" She looked at me questioningly and I just could not wipe the dumbfounded look off my face. I just jabbed my thumb at them and looked at her in disbelief. She shrugged her shoulders and laughed. "Come on, lets get you something to eat." We went and sat at the table, a couple seats down from the two jesters.
"Faelyn! My dear I am so glad to see you!" My mother slurred her excited words.
"I'm glad you are enjoying yourself, mother." I smiled slightly, happy to see that she was enjoying herself. She usually had to be serious all the time but inside she was a jubilant person. Greyson said nothing as her and I caught up on everything that had happened over the last few months. I shot him a few glares over the course of he dinner but he was too drunk to notice, or care. After we finished eating, Keya and I helped mother to her room and got her ready for bed. As we placed her into bed she caught my arm.
"Fae I am so happy to see you are well taken care of here. I was worried at first but when I saw what a good person Greyson is I feel relieved. After your father died I was worried you wouldn't.."
"Mother don't fret. Now get some sleep." She nodded and closed her eyes, her face relaxing. Keya and I slipped out of her room and bid goodnight in the hall. I walked to my room, eager to get to bed. It had been such a long, stressful day with Greyson and my mother. As I approached my door to open it, warm arms embraced me from behind. I stiffened, unsure of my feelings.
He buried his face in my neck and breathed deeply. "Fae, I..I'm sorry. About everything that happened over the last few days."
I scowled at the wall, still tensed up. "I know I fucked up, princess. We shouldn't have gone that far the other night. Its getting so hard to control myself around you now that the bond is growing. Will you look at me, please?" I snapped around angrily. "I need you. Once the bond completes you'll understand what I'm going through right now. "
"Do you have any idea how much it hurt me for you to send me away like that?! I wasn't about control, it felt like you rejected me! I was so embarrassed that we even went that far and your wolf--you punished me!"
"I will always feel the need for control. Its how I am wired. I need to control the pack, and protect them."
"You can't control me. I am your equal, your mate! I have to protect them too. Who's in charge when I am Luna and you are stuck in your dungeon!? Me!"
"I...agree. I do need some more self control but I make no promises that I'll ever be able to relinquish full control, whether in the bedroom or elsewhere." I crossed my arms and hugged myself, refusing to look him in the eyes. I missed him but I was still angry. He grabbed my chin and forcefully kissed me. His week old stubble scratched my delicate skin and his mouth burned with heat and passion against mine. I pushed him away, violently.
"Don't touch me! I just need some time alone. I can't deal with this right now!" I opened the door and shut it in his face. I leaned against the frame and sank to the floor with my head in my hands.
He whispered against the door, "One more day." and then left.
One more day until we would mate, spending forever together. One day until I would supposedly turn, into what I didn't know.
Cliffhanger, I know. I really wanted to get this chapter out, I'm super excited to write about their wedding :) I want it to be a whole long chapter, possibly even 2 parts so stay tuned!
