Philip's P.O.V

"Philip, can you go open the door?" I heard ma call from the kitchen. I perked my head up from the book I was reading and looked at the hall. "I didn't hear anything," I said, diving back into my book. "I saw someone walk up the steps," Ma said and just then I heard knocking. I sighed, closed my book, making a little mental note of the page number, and stood up. "125," I repeated the number as I walked up to the door. I opened the door and felt my cheeks immediately heat up. "Hey," Y/N awkwardly waved at me. "Hey," I greeted a bit out of breath.

"So," She said and clasped her hands together. "I know this is going to inconvenience so much and I even regret coming here in the first place," She started. "But I don't have the money to rent a place for myself," She explained with a lot of hand gestures. "And I was... You know," She rubbed the back of her head and looked to the side. "Hoping you guys could take me in until I can afford a place to stay at," She softly said and looked at the ground. I blinked a few times.

"I-" "I won't be any inconvenience," She cut me off as I tried to answer. "I'll only sleep here and I'll leave you and your family alone for the rest of the day. I can even help with some chores if you ask me," She kept throwing bargains at me until I shushed her. "I'll ask my mom," I told her. "Come in," I opened the door a bit wider and let her in. "Stay here," I said and walked toward the kitchen.

"Ma," I called as I entered the kitchen. "There's a stray Y/N outside," I chuckled as she turned around from the stove. "And?" She asked. "And she doesn't have anywhere to sleep," I explained a little less giddy. "And?" She asked a bit unexpecting for what I was going to ask her. "I offered that she could stay here," I subtly lied. "Philip, we don't have a guest room," Ma sighed. "I know, I know, but maybe she can sleep in my bed," I suggested, fiddling with my fingers. "And where are you going to sleep?" She asked a bit concerned. "I'll sleep on the couch,"

Ma folded her arms. "She can stay here but you're going to have to take responsibility for her to stay," I pressed my lips together and nodded. "You are old enough to take that responsibility, Philip. Prove me right," With that, she turned around and continued cooking.

"You can stay," I told her which made her almost jump up in happiness. "I promise I won't be any kind of inconvenience," She promised me and grabbed my hands in hers. I softly sighed and looked to the side as my cheeks started to tingle. "It's really nothing," I denied her praising. "Let's get you settled into my room,"

I brought her upstairs to my room and put her bag down next to my closet. "I delivered the letter by the way," She said and crashed down on the chair I had slept on the previous time. "Oh?" I asked and sat down on my bed. "I spoke with that Rachel girl," She told me and tossed her left leg over her right one. 'Is this really how she's going to get jealous?'  I thought. "Dude," She started. "This girl had legs for days," She started with a sigh and leaned back.

Wait, what?

"And her hair was to die for..." She dreamily exhaled. "And her eyes, they're just like the ocean," She praised Rachel more and more. "You got a good one, she is super kind," she told me which made me absolutely mortified. "But I may be legit into your girlfriend, just so you know," She mumbled under her breath. I don't think she meant to say that out loud because as soon as she saw my horrified expression, she tried to explain herself. "You know, I'm not gay or anything," She said. "But Rachel seems...dope. It may be the gay gene talking,"

...Jefferson didn't warn me for this!

"She," I nervously laughed. "She is not my girlfriend," I denied, waving my hand in disapproval. "She seemed super happy with the letter! You should consider, just sayin'" She mumbled again. "No, she-" I paused as Y/N stared at me with her e/c eyes. "She just isn't my type," I mumbled. "Cool, cool. Also, I couldn't find her house because I'm an idiot so this nice guy helped me out," She explained. "What?" I asked a bit panicked. "This George Eacker guy," She said as she touched her hat. "He is super nice. But you know, for all I know he's a murderer," She shrugged.

"Yeah, totally," I immediately agreed with her which made her cock an eyebrow. "Anyway," She slowly said as I looked away. "I gave him your address so he could write to me. I told him to address the letter to your sister. So I'll go and explain that whole situation to her," She slowly stood up and walked toward the door.

When she closed the door behind her and walked off, I stood up and started pacing around in my room. I clenched my hands in my hair and tried to calm myself down by counting. "How does someone just fall in love with two people in an hour?" I silently barked before grabbing a book and tossing it at my wardrobe. My breathing became less regular but deeper and heavier.

"No," I tapped my head and walked back to my bookshelf. I quickly skimmed through all the books and finally let my hand rest on the spine of an empty notebook. "No, no," I opened the book. "We're gonna analyze, Philip," I grabbed the nearest pencil and on the first page I wrote:
