It had been a few days since Y/N got off the ship but even on land, she still felt the gentle rocking of the boat. Especially when she laid down. It had grown comforting but made her nauseous half of the time. She slowly wrapped her arm around the pillow she had been resting on and nuzzled her head in. The peaceful atmosphere was almost too perfect.
"Wake up, freeloader, we're going shopping," Someone yelled and pulled the curtains open. The sun shone merciless through the window and blinded Y/N almost immediately. She yelped, jolting up and falling off the bed. As she slowly lifted her head from the floor, she saw Philip knelt beside her. "Good morning, get dressed," He smiled, tossing a pillow at her head.
"How do you get up so early?" Y/N asked, getting up with the pillow under her arm. "Easy," Philip grinned.
"I don't sleep,"
Y/N slowly widened her eyes in shock as Philip kept smiling at her. "Now, let's go!" He insisted and headed out the bedroom they shared. She kept staring at the door he exited out for a while before looking at the pillow she had been carrying around.
It was as if nothing had changed from before.
She shook her head, not wanting to think about it too much before quickly grabbing a dress and heading downstairs. "Good morning, Eliza, Alexander!" She cheerfully said as she passed the living room. Eliza sat there, reading some kind of novel. "Good morning, dear! Alexander isn't here right now but Philip is outside already!" She called as Y/N quickly grabbed her coat. The summer had almost ended and it became a bit brisk outside.
As Eliza said, Philip was outside, holding a basket. "Ready to go?" He asked. "Of course," She smiled as they started walking to town. When Philip didn't bring up any topics to talk about, Y/N decided to ask something that had been roaming in the back of her mind. "Have you heard any news about Eacker?"
With a unsure inhale, Philip began shaking his head. "He left a good while before us so he should be somewhere around here. But no one has heard from him. Maybe he's fled New York when the news of the twins started to spread," He theorized out loud. He did that a lot. Maybe it was in an effort to comfort her. "Maybe," She was willing to believe anything as long as it was comforting.
"I didn't see Alexander in the living room today," She noted drifting away from the previous topic. "I think he's working today," Philip said. "He's been working a lot less," he added. "Yeah, I think the trip really made him reevaluate his living conditions," Y/N agreed.
"The trip had an impact on all of us," Y/N sighed as they entered town. "You sure you don't want to put on a hood or something?" Philip asked as they did. "I'll be fine. I can't hide from them forever," She sighed and that's when the stares started.
Obviously when the news hit, everyone had their own opinion about the matter. Some found it good that Queen Y/N had finally be dethroned, some found it absolutely horrendous that king George was back. Some saw the opportunity in having an heir of the throne live in America, others wanted her gone and back to where she came from.
It was worse when she first arrived, the initial shock was enough to make her run back home.
Now the whispers and glares were her main concern. So as they walked around, systematically filling the basket with more and more food as they went.
"Ah feck," Philip said as he patted his pockets. "What's up?" Y/N asked. "I think I forgot my coin pouch at the fruit store," He grumbled. "Head on over to the miller and get some flour. I'll be there before you know it," He said, handing her the basket before starting to leave. Y/N managed to get a hold of his coat and clench her hand around the fabric. "Don't leave me alone," She whispered looking at him with desperate eyes.
As Philip turned and looked at her, he grabbed both of her shoulders and smiled. "Don't worry. It's right around the corner, nothing bad will happen. I promise," He said and then left her to get his money.
It was almost nerve wracking to see him leave but she mustered up all her courage and quickly made her way around the corner. She quickly entered the shop and made her way to the seller. "M-May I have a b-bag of flower, p-please," She mumbled, not directly looking at him. The guy behind the desk looked up. He had large bags of flour stacked up behind him and the floor seemed to be lightly coated with white powder.
He took a while to answer as he kept staring at her. Afraid that he didn't hear her, she tried repeating herself. "May I have a bag of-" "You're the twin sister, right?" The seller asked in a deep voice. "I-I-I don't know-" "Yes, you're all over the news. Living with Hamilton, right?" He asked. He didn't sound friendly, that's all she could pick up. Her ears and cheeks started to flare up and she started to feel light headed.
"Well, y-yes but-" "Should've stayed dead, you filthy monarch," He said to which Y/N's sight began to fade to black. "I... Was never dead," She said. "Really? Your documents say other wise. Even your own father thought you were dead. Depending on which one we're talking about, of course," He commented harshly. Now she felt as if she couldn't breathe anymore. Tears started to well up.
"Please leave me alone, I didn't do anything-" "Hey, Y/N. Did you get the flour?" Philip called as he hastily entered the store. Frozen in place, she couldn't even turn around to look Philip in the eye. When she didn't look at him, Philip approached her and looked at her face. Just from the glassy eyes, he could tell she wasn't welcomed in a well manner. He turned to the seller who hadn't batten an eye.
"Forget the flour," Philip whispered, looking him in the eye before escorting Y/N out the store. "Let's go home," He said. Once outside, the wind hit Y/N's face, making her dizzy. "...wanna...down..." She mumbled to Philip. "What'd you say?" He asked to which Y/N dropped the basket and repeated a bit more clear.
"I wanna sit down," after which she fell to her knees. Philip panicked and immediately fell down with her. "Y/N!" He called as she fell backwards into his arms.
