Ezme tried to quiet her breath as she started in horror at the door. Light barely made it through the crack under the door but other than that the coat closet that she was hiding is was dark.
Very dark.
The footsteps echoed through the halls and her breath hitched at the interrupted silence. She pulled herself farther into the coats, trying her best to hide. They were so loud. Whoever was making them wasn't being careful.
Her friends were always careful...
They stopped as a shadow interrupted the light under the door. The door creaked open. When the figure was in full view she nearly collapsed with relief.
"Ezme!"
"Matthew." She sighed, "thank goodness."
