I woke up to the sound of the smoke detectors and sighed. I grabbed my hoodie and threw it on before walking down the stairs.

"Honestly Melody? You know you are the worlds worst cook." I said running in and taking the burning pot off the stove and dropping it in the sink before running cool water over it.

"I'm sorry, I was just trying to make you breakfast. But then I was cooking the bacon and I got really sick so I ran to the bathroom and when I came back it was burning and I didn't know what to do." She said panicking.

"It's fine Mel. Just go sit down." I said rubbing my face with my hands. I sighed in frustration and grabbed to broom to clear the smoke away from the detector so it would stop beeping.

"I'm really sorry." Melody said from the living room.

"I said it's fine Melody." I said throwing the broom back in the closet. "Just-don't try cooking again."

"Noted." She said.

"I'm postemating something and having it sent here. Do you think you can get it from the door while I'm in the shower without messing anything up?" I asked walking past the living room and running up the stairs.

"I think I can manage." She said, sinking into the couch. Was that harsh? Yes. But she almost burnt down the entire apartment so I had the right to be harsh.

..........

"Madison, your friend is here." Melody called up the stairs as I was brushing my hair.

"Which one?"

"The one you almost kissed last night." I rolled my eyes and groaned. Gotta love younger siblings.

"I'm in the bathroom, Grayson." I yelled back.

"How's it going?" He asked, leaving against the door frame, watching me braid my hair.

"She almost burnt the kitchen down not even an hour ago." I said making eye contact with him through the mirror.

"That's why it smells like that in there?" He notes. "Other than that, how was the first night at casa de la super aunt?"

"We didn't really talk at all after you and E left last night. She basically just took a shower and went to bed." I said turning around so I could walk out of the bathroom. I turned the light off and brushed past Grayson and into my room so I could grab a pair of socks before going back downstairs. "And then I started the morning off by yelling at her, so it's not been really great but not as bad as it could be."

Grayson didn't say anything.

"And honestly. I'm glad she won't really talk to me. Because I don't think I can keep all these thoughts in my head much longer and if I say the wrong thing, it's going to ruin our relationship forever and she's not going to trust me. But I'm her older sister and apparently she looks up to me or whatever so I've just been biting my tongue every time she say something to me and I feel like I'm going to combust at any moment and I just honestly wish she never would have showed up and that none of his was happening because I just don't really know how to handle anything that has happened in the past 48 hours."

Grayson looked at me like he was trying to process everything that I just said.

"I think you just need a few hours to cool off." He said, rocking back and forth on his heels.

"Yeah. Too bad she's everywhere I turn." I said. "It's not like I can get a moment to myself with her living here and constantly needing something." I said walking out of my room and starting down the short hallway.
