Failing Her

"Where are you going?" Isabel asked coldly as Jace raced through the institute.

"Out." He replied.

"Where's Clary?"

"In my room."

"Why isn't she with you. Mum'll be furious!"

"Izzy, she's tied to my bed, she's not going anywhere."

"Why- What happened?"

"She-she tried to kill me."

"No!"

"She was under Sebastian's control."

"But there was nothing binding her to him."

"I know. It was Lilith."

"Where are you going, really."

"To Magnus. We need to free her, she could turn back at any moment."

"Go quickly, I'll cover for you." With that Isabel left, heading to see her parabaiti.

Jace skidded to a halt in front of Magnus's house. He had been there several times since meeting Clary.

He still didn't understand how much his life had changed since meeting his 'sister'.

He raced up the steps, using a rune to enter.

"Magnus!" He called. No answer. "Magnus Bane! It is Jace Herondale of the Nephilim!"

"What do you want shadowhunter." the warlock scowled, appearing at the top of the large staircase.

"I need your help."

"So the famous Jace finally admits he is not always the best."

"Please Magnus-"

"No! I do not give my help to you anymore. When I was with Alec yes, but no more. I am a free man."

"Please, it's Clary."

Jace watched as Magnus's expression changed several times before setting into a mask of boredom.

"That's a shame. But as I said. I do not offer my help to you anymore. Now leave"

"Is there anyone else? I can't fail her again." Jace pleaded.

"No warlock can break the enchantment of a Greater Demon. I do not know of any who can break whatever controls Clarissa. I'm sorry. Now leave. I've seen enough Nephilim to last me several lifetimes."

Jace left, heading straight back to Clary.

When he entered his room he found Clary unconscious where he had left her. Isabel was sat by the bed, silent tears streaming down her face.

"What? Izzy, what is it?"

"She's gone." She sobbed.

"What do you mean, gone?!" Jace began to panic.

"Our Clary's gone. She hates us. She's afraid of you. Is Magnus coming?"

"No, he can't help. He says the spell is too powerful. I've failed her."

"No Jace. I know you. You love her. You will fight to save her, no matter what cost. You would die for her. I've seen how much you care. We'll find a way. I promise."
