Jace awoke with a start. Sunlight poured through the curtains. He extended his arm to where Clary slept... Only to be met by the cold, empty bed sheets. He leapt out of bed I'm a blind panic.
"Clary! Clary! Where are you?!" He ran from room to room, searching for his love, or Sebastian. Surely Sebastian would stay to gloat of his success.
There was no sign of either of them. It was as if Clary had simply got up and walked away.
Of course! Jace realised. The rune isn't permanent as mine was meant to be. It's simply to lure Clary to him. When she arrives he'll have something else to give her.
He raced back to the bedroom. As he hurriedly began pulling on clothes he caught sight of a note. He slowly picked it up.
Jace,
By now you will have noticed that I'm missing. I have left you. I have seen the light. Shadowhunter's are despicable. They have committed unforgivable crimes against my family tree. You think the clave are good and care about you. But if my life had been left in their hands they wouldn't have spared a second thought about me after I was gone. They have blinded you. You can no longer tell right from wrong. The minds of the Nephilim have been poisoned by covenant law. My brother is one of the few that can see the truth. I have gone to him. It is up to the Morgenstern's to fix what the Clave have destroyed.
