I love seeing new interest spark in the story :D I'm glad yall are enjoying it and if there's anything yall would like to see happen it may end up in a fluff or filler chapter ;)
I rolled over in bed feeling warmth disappear, scrunching my brows together I reached behind me finding the space to be empty and the cover pulled neatly back into its place. I squinted through my lashes around the dimly lit room looking for Dove, failing to see her I groaned and opened my eyes fully. Sitting up in bed and rubbing my eyes tiredly.
Wheres our mate?
my wolf mumbled she had been decently quiet as of late and I was starting to wonder why she chooses now to pipe up. Rubbing my cheeks one more time I slowly pulled the covers away from my body, sliding out of bed and stretching before stumbling over to the door. I squinted against the light coming in through the windows and wished I had my glasses, though they were sadly at home.
"Dove?" I called out, peeking my head around the hallway to the living room and kitchen when I heard the clatter of a pot. And shuffling of feet that I knew were defiantly not Dove's, Dove didn't shuffle around nervously like that. Just as I was pondering locking myself in the room and calling Dove a small head poked out from the kitchen entryway, a frazzled looking boy that couldn't have been older than 17 looked at me with wide blue eyes. I suddenly realized what I was wearing and squeaked, quickly running back up the stairs and finding a pair of Dove's joggers. Though they fell off my hips when I tried to slip them on. Damnit there wasn't a drawstring.
"Ma'am?" Came a small voice and a light knock on the door, my wolf letting out a nervous giggle as it seemed he was trying to push a set of brand new clothes under the door. I slowly came over and pulled the clothes through. Looking at the new Nike leggings and a matching black sports bra, along with a sweater with a wide neck. All in my size, had Dove had a pack member go into town? I ran my hands over the soft material, I had only ever had used name brand clothing. I got changed into the outfit and looked in the mirror, blinking slightly as I took in my appearance. The grey sweatshirt fell slightly off one shoulder, showing the thick black strap of the sports bra. The leggings hugged what little curves I had and by god were they comfortable, I ran my hand down my side and looked at the exposed skin on my neck and shoulder. Frowning as I grazed my fingertips along the pale white blotches. Had Dove noticed yet? Why hadn't she said anything?
She probably doesn't care.
My wolf murmured, thinking once more to our mate. It seemed to be the only thing on her mind while I was more focused on the boy in the kitchen. I turned and slowly opened the door, walking down the stairs and peeking around the corner to see the boy filling a food bowl for one of the dogs, smiling as he stroked the animal's soft fur. He looked up when I stepped down from the last step causing both of us to freeze for a moment while I stared, unsure whether or not to start a conversation. I watched as he cleared his throat and stood, he was gangly, his shirt didn't seem to fit him very well.
"H-hi, my name is Nathan. I'm D-dove's nephew." He mumbled, holding out a hand that was slightly shaking. A blinked up at him for a moment and slowly extended my hand, shaking his quickly and letting go.
"Im Olana... I''m Dove's-" I paused, unsure if I should continue and looked around nervously, god could this be anymore awkward?? He held up his hands for me to stop, shaking his head and offering a small smile.
"It's okay, Dove told me not to ask, she said you're important...That's it." He murmured, walking back into the kitchen to continue whatever he was doing earlier, it smelled damn good so I walked through the open archway and looked over at him while he cooked. Licking my lips as my mouth began to water at the breakfast of biscuits and gravy. He must have heard me come in because he looked up from his cooking. Nodding to the small dining table where a cup of coffee sat on a coaster.
"I didn't know Dove had any siblings," I mumbled, sitting down and fixing my coffee before taking a sip, feeling my eyes open up more with each drink.
"She doesn't, O-Omar and Rosie took me in when I was twelve." He mumbled, and I nodded understanding. I took this time to look him over, he was lean and a bit scrappy. His hair was tousled and his cheeks were a light shade of pink. He was a cute boy, and he would probably be a handsome man when he was older, but for now, he still had his baby face and pouty lips in the awkward stage of his teenage years.
"Dove's been helping me for the past... four years? She let me house sit for her for money, clean and feed the dogs and stuff. She told m to make you breakfast if she wasn't home." He mumbled quickly, it seemed that once he started talking he couldn't quite stop. He rambled on about the times that he had to try and fix Dove's washer and ended up covering her entire first floor in suds, I could imagine Dove's face when she came home and found soap bubbles pouring out her front door and the thought made me laugh, genuinely laugh. That made Nathan smile, he was adorable.
We ate breakfast at the dining table, both dogs were in and they seemed to know they could get table scraps from Nathan because they each put their heads in his lap. One of them on his left leg the other on his right, just waiting for him to 'accidentally' drop a piece of sausage off his fork. He told me more stories about his younger years with Omar and Rosie, then stories about Dove which immediately gathered my attention.
"So, there was one year on April fools that Omar Rosie and I hide in different places around Dove's house with noise cannons. Ya know the little handheld ones that send little strings all over? And an air horn. Each time one of us got her the other would run off to a new hiding place and wait. She eventually locked herself in the closet and waged a prank war. God the look on her face every time was priceless." He laughed, and I couldn't help but laugh along with him.
"I will gladly participate in the next prank." I giggled, finishing my breakfast and setting my plate on the floor for the dogs to lick up the rest of the gravy. "Do you know what time Dove will be back?" I asked, tilting my head as he looked around the room and quickly got up, snatching a not off the fridge and set it down in front of me.
"This is what she left for me today, she wasn't really clear on times."
"Hey Nate, I have a special treat for you today. I have someone staying over and she means a lot to me so I'd appreciate it if you made breakfast before she got up. Other than that you know the drill. I should be home once my meeting is over with."
I read over the note and smiled at Dove's small handwriting, it was neat with a slight slant and a big curve to the y's. I handed the note back to him and shrugged, leaning back in my chair wondering what I was going to do all day. It seemed like Nathan had read my mind because he cleared his throat and mumbled.
"Do you like Harry Potter?"
A/N Y'all like Nathan? :D Cuz Nate loves you.
