During the Final Battle:

Fred:

The air exploded. Heat and sparks came flying out in all directions. All Fred could remember as Death was about to draw near was Percy joking to the 'minister' that he was quitting. His mouth was still curved in a grin (or was it a smirk?) as the green light came hurtling towards him.    "Nooooooooo" that was all he could think of as the green light drew closer. It was to late for anything however, the death curse meet its target and Death claimed him as his own.

As his body was consumed by the curse, memories flashed by. Memories of himself and George pranking  each other as well as their unsuspecting family members. Memories of the day they opened their joke shop, filled to brim with their greatest inventions. One particular memory stood out- the day when Hermione Granger, (the brightest witch of all time!) praised his Patented Daydreams Charms. Ahhh, the memories that flew by involving Hermione.

Fred never knew when his crush on Hermione had started. She had just started creeping into his thoughts all of a sudden in his sixth year when she came after him and George asking them if they wanted to join S.P.E.W. George had laughed at the idea and Fred had immediately backed George up.  However, for every day afterwards, all Fred could think of was Hermione's determined expression and was amazed that even though no one else believed her, she never stopped trying. In the end, Fred had approached Hermione secretly one day when she was knitting hats  for the elves, and paid her one sickle for the S.P.E.W badge which he kept hidden in his blazer at all times. Hermione's delighted face as he bought the S.P.E.W. badge penetrated his thoughts.

Little by little, Hermione had started to creep up on him. He had never been brave enough to confess his feelings for her but he had tracked her every move with his eyes. One night, as they were writing the letter to Ludos Bagman, George asked Fred,"Do you have a crush on Granger?"

Fred gulped " Why on earth would you think that?" .

George smirked, "All you talk about is Granger, all you look at is Granger. Did I mention that you talk and look at Granger a lot? Oh yeah! Maybe 'cause you've been doing it 24/7!"

Fred widened his eyes as he blushed. Was this weird feeling, the feeling of a thousand butterflies and the nervous flutter of his heart, called a crush? George grinned and left it at that.

During the Yule Ball, Fred had been devastated when he heard Angelica telling her best friend that she had heard a rumor that Hermione was going to the Yule Ball with none other than Viktor Krum. In order to shut Angelica up, Fred decided to ask her to the ball. Although they had a good time, Fred's eyes were fixed on Hermione.

After the Yule Ball, Fred saw Hermione crying on the great steps. He was about to rush up when he saw his git of a brother, Ron and Harry rushing up to her. They exchanged a few words and Fred had to restrain himself from bolting up the stairs to comfort Hermione and exchange a few 'kind' words with Ron.

These thoughts raced through his brain as he took his last breath. Death consumed him as his eyelids fluttered shut and his thoughts came to a stop. However, Fred knew that his job was far from over. He still had work to do. Maybe not of the pranking kind but the protecting kind. As his world fell into darkness, Fred resolved to protect Hermione (as well as the rest of his family) to the best of his abilities.

Fred opened his eyes. With a start, he realised that he was wearing flashy clothes, the kind he usually wore but brand new and clean. As he looked up, he saw a screen with everyone in Hogwarts going about their business. "They won! They won!" Fred muttered to himself.

'Hermione! George! Where's George?! Where's Hermione?'

Fred surveyed the image before him. George's and Hermione's names went through his head again and again. Eventually, two smaller screens parted from the bigger screen. One with the image of what George was doing and the other with Hermione. Fred grinned. This was awesome!  He must have been in heaven.

In the next two weeks, Fred busied himself with adding his loved ones and friends to the smaller screens. His family frequently visited his grave, leaving small trinkets and flowers. During his funeral, the fireworks that both he and George had invented burst out beautifully causing him to cry at the same time as George burst out into fresh tears.
