At the grave

Hedwig:

After death, Hedwig suddenly wanted to deliver mail. Sure, he had pulled a fit every now and then when Harry asked him to send mail to his friends, but he had never fully appreciated flying and delivering letters.

When he had woken up in heaven, Hedwig had found himself in a beautiful cage. A woman had been looking after him while he was asleep. Immediately, Hedwig felt safe in this woman's care. "Are you feeling better? Good. Thank you for looking after my son while you were with him. I'm in great debt to you Hedwig." Lily had told him. At that moment, a man with unruly hair and a lopsided smile grinned at Lily and joked, "So now you owe owls?"

Hedwig squawked indignantly. Did equality mean nothing to everyone nowadays? Upon hearing Hedwig's squawk, Lily turned to her husband James, shushed him with a smile on her face, and told Hedwig, "I understand that you want to continue to send letters. From now on, you will bring mail from the living to the dead."

Those were the best words that Hedwig had hear since he was dead. Which wasn't saying much but... yeah

Ever since that day, Hedwig had been on high alert for any notifications that alerted him to any letter that he could deliver. As luck would have it, the first letter he would send was the one that Hermione had wrote to Fred.
