Chapter 20: Blown Off
Carmen hopped into the warm passenger seat in Michael's car. She snuggled up in her sweater as her teeth chattered. Michael saw her discomfort and laughed, turning on the heat and the warmed seats.
"Brr..." Carmen continued to shiver and shake. "Why is it so cold today?"
Of course the weather had to match the mood of the hospital. MIchael ignored her question and began driving to the nearest StarBucks.
After 10 minutes, the cold was gone, and blue skies rolled in to replace the gloomy looking clouds.
"I hope Addy's gonna be alright." Michael sighed, planting his eyes back on the road after a quick glance at Carmen.
"I know." She stared at him and let out a breath. "We all do. But this is about us, Michael. Right now, we're going to share our first date and have a memorable moment. I would prefer if you didn't spend the time on the way there thinking about another girl."
Carmen did not expect to sound as selfish as she did, and Michael heard the edge in her voice.
"I'm being kind and making conversation, Carmen." He glared at her, unable to believe how she was speaking. Yeah, jealousy happens, but right after meeting a friend in the hospital was not the time for it. "I'm also offering support for a friend in need. Do you not know what that means?" Michael was beginning to get frustrated, and began to rant. "Obviously you don't! You know what? We're not going anywhere! I don't want to do anything with you right now, so try again later."
"Well I guess I don't have to tell you where I live, because you seemed to know how to STALK people!" She shot back at him, referring to the time he appeared in her backyard.
"You're right! I don't! Because I'm not driving you to your house!" He screamed, his face red with anger as he pulled over the car.
"Get out." Michael motioned towards the door.
Tears were visible in Carmen's eyes she opened the door, putting one foot out.
"THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED WITH CALUM AND ADDY!" She lost her temper. Carmen was fed up with Michael. Being distant. Yelling. Not caring.
Was it even meant to be?
